The Priory is nestled within the historic town of Caerleon on the River Usk. Dating back to 1180, this hotel was originally a Cistercian monastery. It has a fantastic à la carte restaurant, and is situated in secluded grounds in the historic town of Caerleon, on the River Usk. Many of the traditional rooms at The Priory Hotel retain original period features, and all come with a flat-screen multi-channel TV. Rooms all have picturesque views, their own bathroom, and a work desk. Each morning, breakfast is provided in the Oak Panel Room, with its antique stained glass and wooden panels that date back to 1622. The restaurant offers a wide-ranging menu for evening meals, and outdoor seating is available in the pretty gardens. The centre of Newport is just a 10-minute drive from The Priory. Cardiff and Bristol can both be reached in around 30 minutes by car.

The friendly staff couldn't do enough to help us, always on hand to answer any questions. The receptionists had a very good knowledge of the locality and transport links. The hotel had a very relaxed atmosphere and the grounds were beautiful. Food in the restaurant very good. Highly recommended and would certainly stay there again. This is a nice comfortable hotel in a pleasant interesting village in a fairly quiet location. The restaurant offers a great selection of meals which are displayed on boards behind the chilled display counters, which means you can see and choose exactly what you want.

In the centre of a village with wonderfully preserved Roman remains.Unusual servery display restaurant with excellent food. Lovely gardens leading to open fields. The setting is wonderful. Surrounded by trees and 2000 yrs of visible roman and welsh history. The roman amphitheatre in front of the hotel is awesome and the museum across from the hotel very inspiring and enlightning. Unfortunately it was just a stopover for us and we didn't get to spend much time in Caerleon or eat at the hotel restaurant which looked fantastic. We will make sure we arrive early enough for dinner here next time!. I liked all elements of the hotel, a very freindly amd welcoming hotel. The restaurant, is worth a special mention as its food is excellent quality and very well prepared and served. Thank you and excellent stay. The Priory and the surrounding area is very quiet and relaxing. The atmosphere in the house is very warm and welcoming. Unfortunately we stayed only for one night, but we will certainly go back again. A lovely old building ideally sited for visitors wanting to explore the Roman history of this town. The gardens were lovely, but it rained all the time we were there, so we couldn't make use of them. Room was on the small size but was well equipped,very clean and comfortable. Ideal for our two night stay. All meals were excellent with good choices. Staff always friendly, polite and professional. The settings are superb especially to the rear of the hotel. We found the bar area gets very packed & very noisy on the Friday & Saturday night's we stayed. It's a very dull/dark area which needs brightening up. Much of the restaurant furniture is old & worn out which is in need of replacement as it lets down the area looking tacky. There was nothing that i didn't like. We'd booked and had confirmed a twin room, but were shown a double room on arrival. Fortunately a twin room was available, so we were able to change, but it meant quite a lot of walking around in the rain. otherwise loved the place. Not being able to get a reservation in the hotel restaurant for dinner as fully booked, but found an excellent Spanish one just across the road. Weekend breakfast is a bit late (I had to be away by 7:45am and breakfast didn't start till 8:00 but they did put out cereal and yoghurt which was good of them. Constant loop of what sounded like Julio Iglesias singing throughout the day, during dinner, and again at breakfast. After two days it was excruciating!. Awkward to find, not enough signage from front, easily missed on approaching from High Street. Sorry but the bacon for breakfast although nice was very salty. Really noisy if you have Room facing the road. Traffic noise from very early in the morning to late at night and from the lively pub across the road. having food paid for by weight... friend said like USSR! Background music was a little loud in dining section...this and hen party was a little noisy, hope they enjoyed themselves. many security cameras ..felt safe but found them intrusive. my only dislike was a very rude and intimidating American gentleman who seemed very well known to the staff, very drunk and intruding on all the women in the bar/restaurant/beer garden, I was amazed that he had not been asked to leave as he was ruining a wonderful night for most. The luxury room was a bit cold. Bathrooms a little basic but great value for money. Directions were very difficult to follow. Not all streets are labeled as the on-line maps might direct you. Dim lighting in the lounge and parts of restaurant. There was nothing to dislike about our stay here. Bed a bit harder than used to, but only had one night. Nothing. Breakfast was pretty average. Breakfast not up to standard of lunch - cornflakes do not constitute 'continental breakfast'. Why no table cloth/napkins? Coffee standing on hob soon tastes foul, why not served in individual pot?. Vehicular entrance is off a side street at the back of the complex. Difficult to find at first. Shower in bathroom needed updating. Windows don't open due to understandable age and character - but room too hot. The room was lovely but the window seat cushion was split and frayed. It wouldn't take much to re-cover and make the room loved. Reported two lights not working - hot sink tap fitting was loose, nowhere to hang towels in bathroom - just took the edge off a pleasurable visit. Heated towel rail not working, and not repaired despite request. Nothing, but would like a little more choice for breakfast. being accommodated apart from the hotel caused slight discomfort by having to walk through the car park in the rain for our meals. Nothing negative. Slightly dated decoration. Bar area seemed very poorly lit. Bed was a little on the hard side. The room decor was basic but adequate. Restaurant over priced in my opinion.
