Hinsley Hall is an oasis of calm, surprisingly close to the bustling city centre of Leeds. The rooms tend to be basic but then again why pay for luxury when all that's needed is a comfortable bedroom? The en suite was perfect, and the breakfast--full English if desired, all you can eat, cafeteria style service included--was excellent, and served by friendly, cheerful staff in a beautiful dining hall. It was a delightful bonus to discover the place is also used as a Christian retreat centre, wit.

Kitchenette supplies - nice to have a mug! - though would have liked to have been able to make myself an early morning cup of tea to have in bed without having to get dressed and walk a bit of a distance down the corridor! Good-sized towels. The fact that there wasn't a television! Great choice of different fruits/fruit prep for breakfast. We stayed in a budget twin room which was very clean, comfortable beds and everything you need. Nice and warm with radiators you can control. Small kitchen down the corridor for hot drinks whenever you like. Breakfast was great - amazing value! Sunrise over the garden was beautiful. All staff were friendly and pleasant. For a traveller seeking first-class accommodation and wide screen TVs in every room this is not the place for you--go to a five-star hotel instead (and pay their prices!). Conflicting info re checkout time: 10 a.m. according to reception staff but 9.15 stipulated on room info card. Would like to have been informed on booking that shampoo etc not provided. Would have been good to have choice of eggs as do not like fried eggs. I assume guests would feel better with some more lights on around, however it`s wise to save energy for future needs, Hinsley Hall is so huge place (fair enough). Everything was fine, thanks. 15 mins from Leeds centre by car due to Uni traffic at peak times. Lack of tv in room only downside but used laptop to watch news & I player. There is a television lounge, for use by residents. There is a mis-match between the public areas and the en-suite rooms. The great expectations as you walk in might not be fulfilled when you reach the functional 'no frills' but perfectly adequate rooms. Lack of direction at breakfast - there were lots of long tables but it only looked like one was set, however I think there was a setting for us at the far end of one of the other tables and we crashed a largish (but nice) group by mistake. Oops. The fact I could not stay longer !!! Nothing a positive experience throughout from arrival to departure. We could not find any fault!!. The old fashioned windows rattled a bit in the wind, it was a bit annoying but didn't keep me awake. There was nothing that I did not like would stay at this hotel again. The night manager only mans the desk until 7pm so you have to make arrangements in advance if arriving after that. Location was a bit far out from city centre - 50 minutes' walk - although there are frequent buses. No TV or tea / coffee facitlities in room. There was absolutely nothing wrong. The location was a little out of our way didn't realise there was no tv but it wasn't the end of the world but that's the only two things that we can comment on !!. nothing I didnt like all excellent. Minor points. Windows in room were wooden and let in a little noise....no real problems though. The "Church-like" decor in the corridors (paintings of Leeds Bishops) may not be to everyones tastes. A small point but the gravelled car park needs some holes filling in. Nothing. Breakfast could have a been a little better (food kept hot) - eggs for example could have been cooked to order. But this is a minor criticism. This is a refurbished listed building set in gardens. It is run not-for-profit. Do not expect entertainment. Do expect peace and quiet. You really must put television in every room. We arrived mid-afternoon and would have been disappointed to be sat in a room for hours with nothing to watch. I don't believe we are tele-addicts. There was no television in the room but as we were only staying 1 night it was nice to read for a change. There was a kitchen down the corridor but tea-making things in the room would have been a bonus. The front desk staff were efficient but not particularly friendly. The windows rattled in the wind and I had to get up in the night to try to fix that. Curtains didn't totally shut and a little chilly in the night but had my onesie so ok no spare blankets. Could do with a tv & hairdryer in room :-). Tight shower cabin with weak jet. Not much of bar area and only 1 hour time slot for breakfast check out abit early. Table lay out.
