Built around 1810, the charming Broughton House is located in 2 acres of gardens, south of the Lake District National Park. It has hearty Aga breakfasts and spacious bedrooms. Produce used in the breakfast is locally sourced and includes eggs from the hens in the garden. The bread is homemade and lighter options such as scrambled eggs and Cartmel Valley smoked salmon are also available. Individually decorated, the bedrooms have wooden floors and a large, luxurious bathroom with free toiletries. They also feature tea/coffee making facilities and garden views. The village of Cartmel, with its 12th-century priory is just 2 miles from the Broughton and junction 36 of the M6 motorway is a 20-minute drive away. There is free parking at the property.

being at Broughton House is like being with family in that you have cate to look after you just like any good mum would when you go home.....and she cannot do enough for you,she is super happy and her cooking is legendary. Absolutely amazing breakfasts with just so much choice and all made by hand even the muesli, which is the best you could ever taste down to the freshly squeezed orange juice, to the fresh organic chicken eggs to fresh farm bacon n sausage n black pudding.........plates of fre.

The breakfast was great food and loved fact we could say what time we would like to eat Bed really comfy and homemade biscuits and chocolate brownie was added bonus. Cate was clearly a people person, she was slightly eccentric which was endearing ( hope she doesn't mind me saying so ). She worked really hard to make sure we had everything we needed, even finding a recipe for hash browns for my husband Will definitely book again. We were all made extremely welcome by the owner who could not do enough for us. She even made a lovely birthday cake when we just happened to mention it would be our friend's birthday the next day! The breakfast was excellent and the bread, jams etc were all home made. The eggs came fresh from her own hens and we all felt very much at home during our stay we will certainly go back again. My parents have asked me to submit this review on their behalf. Perfect period property. Lovely room and private bathroom with an extremely comfortable bed with crisp white linen. Excellent breakfast cooked to perfection by Cate. Attention to detail such as the selection of teas stored on the old chest on the landing, home-made biscuits in our room. Wonderful antiques wherever you look. We had a lovely 2 night stay, one of the best B&Bs we've stayed at and couldn't reccommend it more highly. The rooms were excellent, really pretty and cosy, breakfast was amazing and such a lovely family run business with real attention to detail. The family took us into Cartmel for our evening meal without us asking and were extremely welcoming, we will certainly return. Upon arrival we were greeted by Cate with home cooked shortbread and a pot of tea. Cate was very friendly and welcoming and was in contact with us before we arrived to ensure that she was around to greet us. The accommodation had a very home from home feel and I cannot praise it enough. We will most definitely be returning and would recommend it to our friends and family. The hospitality was first rate, special touches such as an unexpected tray of tea and homemade cakes when we returned in the afternoon, an Easter egg on the pillow and the warm welcome we received from Cate all combined to make this the best B & B I have EVER stayed in - I can't wait to stay there again. Cate was an amazing host, freshly made flapjacks (oat cakes) in my room and accomodated to my veganism, gave me hiking maps and taught me how to use them and also a compass!! It was a beautiful and serene environment and had such a restful sleep! I wish I could have stayed longer!. Cate and Ben were very welcoming, so much that Cate dropped us off at at L'enclume for our evening meal. The decor was tastefully chosen and our breakfast lovely. Cate helped us on our way by looking up the forecast for Coniston. They couldn't have been better hosts. Attention to detail in room, including homemade cakes, selection of fruit, bathrobe etc., all very welcoming. Getting a text to ask what time I was arriving and checking I was not lost! Very friendly welcome from Cate. Will definitely recommend to friends etc. Warm welcome n arrival, and lovely afternoon complimentary tea with home made cakes. Lounge facility with large open fire very relaxing. Breakfast served in conservatory, with home made bread, preserves and eggs from the chickens in the garden. From the moment we arrived Cate was so friendly and saw to our every need.Our room was so comfy and we loved the bathroom with everything we could want.The breakfasts were wonderful with so many choices.We very much hope to return. A little hard to find - but not a big deal - have your GPS and a little patience! And you will be a fine!. No opening window in bedroom. Nothing, it was a lovely stay. Rugs on stairs not very safe. The bedroom was very warm / hot during the night. Having to go home. Nothing. Nothing. The narrow roads leading to the B & B. n/a. Difficult to find!.
