The Seagate is a 17th-century hotel sitting on the quay in the Devon fishing village of Appledore. It offers bed and breakfast accommodation in individually furnished rooms, with the inn serving real ale and cider alongside an extensive food menu with local seafood specialities.
All rooms have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, hairdryers, tea and coffee facilities and cotton bedding, and most have sea views. Each room has a modern en suite bathroom with complementary toiletries.
A full English breakfast is offered alongside filled omelettes, scrambled eggs and salmon, and grilled kippers. There is also fresh fruit, juices, yoghurt and cereals.
This West Country inn has outdoor terraces with tables enjoying views across the estuary. Fresh, locally caught fish is a big part of the Seagate food menu, with sample dishes including baked mackerel with Moroccan spice and beer-battered haddock with chunky fries.
Within around 10 minutes’ drive, you can visit the port of Bideford, and the beaches of Instow and Westward Ho!

The Seagate has just opened for business this year and this was my first visit, but not my last. I was very happy with the friendly staff and my room was first class just has well as a 4 Star hotel. The food was very well presented, i thought the menu was a bit pricey but i was not disappointed with my evening meal. Everything! A good renewal of a once-failing harbour-side pub, and no longer a place to avoid. 1st class staff, excellent food, great rooms (especially #1 which has a HUGE bed!!) A great place that will only bring business to Appledore. The owners are really pleasant and the place is dog-friendly! Go and enjoy!.
Suite had 3 windows overlooking the sea, king size bed very comfortable, clean, pleasant staff & owners. A really good breakfast recommend the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Dinner was very nice. Well done & keep up the good work.
The friendly, helpful staff and owners; the fantastic location; the extensive breakfast menu; the spacious room, with comfortable beds and seating; the sparkling, clean bathroom. It was excellent value for money.
Our room was lovely and very quiet. Our room was above the bar area but everyone was very respectful and not noisy at all and the bar closed promptly at 11.00, would certainly stay there again.
We were made very welcome and all the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was delightful with a sea view, room to sit, large comfy bed. The food was excellent. We will go back.
We had the twin room at the front of the hotel - great view over the estuary. Easy access to the fabulous coast and Bideford and Barnstaple. Terrific value for money.

Most things good, I was familiar with the area and needed to stay in Appledore itself. Extremely clean and facilities good. Bedding very warm.

It is hard to pick any problems with the Seagate, if I had any problem at all, my Kipper for breakfast was not fully cooked but they did give me two and my first was cooked very well.

Hard to find one but if i did i would say that the main meals on an evening were a little pricey.
Heating in the room could have been better. It was bitingly cold outside and I wish that the room heater & length of time it was on had been able to warm up the room better.

Booking com failed to pass on full details of booking with my request for sofa bed to be made up on suite. U booked us into double instead of suite requested. Fortunately the suite we booked was free and they were able to. make up extra bed. This is second booking problem I have had with booking com. I no longer trust your service and will always phone hotel to make sure you have made my reservation according to the confirmation you give me.

The room was adequate but a bit on the small size.
A word of warning thou. letsbookhotel.com quoted us £117 for 2 nights but the hotel charged us £130 for the 2 nights. So Make sure you check the bill before you leave the premises.
