  Some of my ratings don't really do justice to this unique and beautiful hotel. Amazing setting, very helpful staff. The fittings of the hotel are perhaps a little tired in places, and they are currently part way through a major refurb...which will probably double the price!   This hotel is a rare gem. The staff is simply exceptional in their level of care, friendliness and willingness to do anything possible to make your visit to Penang interesting and enjoyable. From the moment you step into this magical place you are welcomed as if you are royalty. Our room which was actually a suite was decorated with - It's a beautifully restored set of old houses, the staff are courteous, friendly and helpful, there are special touches like the 4pm cup of tea and kuih (local cake) by the poolside. It rained part of the time we were there but this was a lovely place to just relax and read a book in peace. The Kebaya restaurant was where we had the best meal during our three days, wish it were open for lunch too.   I was very grateful for the excellent English ability of the staff. I was overjoyed with the ease and simplicity of getting a tourist visa for Thailand. Every staff member was very friendly. - The stuff was very helpful and friendly, I would stay there again if I return. The rooms are big and comfortable and I recommend this hotel.
