  Staff were friendly and we tried to tip the valet, but she refused our money and later we were advised by Japanese friends that this is customary as hotel already charges tax. It was very honest of her.   We were extremely impressed with the quality of the customer service provided to us by each and every hotel employee. In particular, Mr. Simon Finch, the lead concierge, was immensely friendly and helpful with every aspect of our stay. There is a nice little ramen restaurant in the corner of the street opposite Nijo Castle which we liked as they even have English menu.

  The rooms were compact, but contained everything required. The location was within walking distance to grocery stores, restaurants, temples, the Nishiki market and surrounding shopping streets/department stores, Gion, as well as Kyoto station (more great shopping!), and was also very close to lots of public transport. Staff were very helpful with ... vad folk säger » suggestions/directions, and when I fell sick one night after all drugstores were closed they happily gave me appropriate medicine. Most had good Engli - Solid value for the money, particularly for a solo or business traveler. Not a lot of frills when it comes to the rooms and restaurant, but the public bath and relaxation room, plus the professionalism of the staff, make it well worth it. It is a bit of a walk from neighborhoods that have a lot of eating and shopping options, but in exchange, it is quite while remaining central. Bicycle rental is convenient.

  This is a great hotel with great staff who a very freindly and helpful. Wonderful traditional Japanese meal served in tradtional style. Wonderful indoor and outdoor hot springs (spa pools).
