  The staff is exceptional -- all spoke English, even the maid. All wentout of their way to be friendly and helpful and gracious. We added on ahalf day, since our flight didn't leave til evening, and the maid camein and made up the room with fresh towels and everything while we wereat lunch.   It was about 50 metres to a large modern shopping centre, Takoo Hui Shopping Mall. Which had a wonderful food court, super market, etc. The Hotel served a top breakfast. Excellent rooms, and helpful staff. Would stay there on my next visit, and would recommend it to anyone.   I loved everything about Shangri-La; although abit on the expensive side but worth it. The hotel is the grandest I have ever visited, the service is excellent and has lived up to its 5-star status.   Booked in for a for a standard room and because my birthday was the following week, I was upgraded with a suite, and given wine and chocolate. Wonderful gesture, but as I had a 1am flight, wasn't able to take full advantage of staying the night.   Value for money and very modern hotel. Stayed here last year and will definitely come back. Very friendly staff, especially the concierge. Rooms modern and clean, very good service at the restaurants - The hotel is very clean and has several different restaurants, the staff is very friendly and can speak good English. The hotel is within central Guangzhou, close to two beautiful parks and close enough to sights of interest.
