Loved the atmosphere on the grounds with the open-air lobby and tropical landscaping.
The on-site restaurant had excellent food and a view of the pool and ocean. The tiki torch lighting in the evenings with the sound of the conch shell and great entertainer was also very memorable.

We liked how close we were to the beach. I left my sliding glass door open all night so I could hear the ocean. Very soothing. There are a lot of places to stay on Maui, I feel that I stayed in the best location!! Easy to get in and out. Hwy 30 just down the street. The staff made it extremely easy to come and go. They weren't pushy, but available when you needed them.

This is Hawaii's Hawaiian Hotel. We had a room on the main floor, garden view, room 178 (smoking outside). Very helpful staff - great location - you need a car if you are staying here but it is great to be away from all of the hustle and bustle. The beach is on the doorstep. We would certainly stay there again.

The swimming pool complex was amazing and well-suited for both a 1-year-old and an 8-year-old. The staff and guests just seemed so much more pleasant and approachable than other resorts we visited in the area. The location, beach and quiet were ideal for us. We visited the Four Seasons, Andaz and Grand Wailea and just felt more "at home" at the Makena. Less pretentious, less "busy", more relaxing, quieter. -
