Chateau de Portail was a wonderful experience and Claude Herbert was an amazing host. It was nice to be welcomed so warmly into his home with nowhere out of bounds. The house is charming, warm, comfortable and elegant with a relaxed feel to it thanks to Claude Herbert's hospitality. As a family with two young girls (aged 3 and 5) this can sometimes be an annoyance to other guests and the host but we never felt like this. We were only booked in overnight on our way to Calais from Carcassonne. We arrived after a 7 hour drive so a dip in the outdoor heated pool was a welcome and rejuvenating experience. Beautiful hotel and family rooms well designed and carefully thought out. The childrens bunk beds were in a separate area, behind a closed door, but within our room, brilliant! Large comfortable beds, lovely warm showers, good sized pool, fabulous buffet evening meal and breakfast. Great location for the wonderful beaval zoo.

The location is ideal for visiting the Chateau at Chambord. This is a really unique experience and an opportunity to stay in a Chateau. The rooms are of an older period but quite charming. The hosts Patrick and his wife Ileana were both friendly and helpful with local information. The breakfast in a period dining room with painted panels was special.

Our room was delightful, two double beds so comfortable, the decor pale blue achieved a very relaxing place to be. Everything was absolutely great! The personnel, the service, the room, the park, everything was more than we have expected. Silence and pleasant atmosphere, easy access to castles and nice restaurants with absolutely gorgeous food. Best Croissants (at breakfast) I ever had in France!
