Set within a 19th-century, Grade II listed building, the American themed Smith and Western Hotel offers unique, individually decorated rooms, just a short walk from the historic Pantiles shopping district.
Named after Native American tribes, rooms at the Smith & Western evoke the Old West with bedside lights in the shape of antlers or cowboy boots, and blankets inspired by Native American designs. All rooms have flat-screen TVs with Freeview, coffee machines, and free Wi-Fi.
The Smith and Western Restaurant serves classic American dishes as well as international favourites and a hearty cowboy breakfast. It also offers blended cocktails and cold beers.
The Smith and Western is 5 minutes’ walk from the centre of Royal Tunbridge Wells. The Spa Valley Railway and Tunbridge Wells Railway Station are both within 5 minutes’ drive.

This was our first stay in Royal Tunbridge Wells and a Smith and Western. The hotel is excellent, the staff are so friendly and helpful. the hotel was clean and fresh looking with a relaxed feeling. Amazing breakfast selections, and a great menu for the the rest of the day.. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well equipt. I would recommend this 5 star.hotel.
The overall "Western" theme made the hotel different. This was supported by excellent facilities in the hotel and a close proximity to Tunbridge Wells centre.
Excellent staff and very good breakfast buffet. We didn't eat at the restaurant but all our contacts say the food is excellent and if it matches breakfast they are right.wszystkie opinie »
Had a great stay at Smith & Western, the room was really comfortable & we really liked the quirky themed furniture. The staff were very friendly, & the breakfast was a big highlight!
Great how they've used an impressive old train station building in such a creative way. Definitely going again!.
Loved the Western theme, lovely bedroom facilities with coffee maker and
nice bathroom products. The bed was amazing - really comfortable and
lovely bedlinen. Staff were all really helpful - Janet the chamber maid
even drew me a map for where I was going!.
The hotel is in a great location both for visiting Tunbridge Wells and for a day trip by train to London. The staff were efficient and friendly, the room very clean and comfortable, breakfast excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend the hotel.
Loved the themed ground floor, but with bedrooms very modern and contemporary - could have been in a top London Hotel, but fabulous location right in the heart of the town. Staff were polite, happy and always greeted with a smile.
The staff have always been very welcoming and as we have stayed here on a number of occasions now, they all remember us and take an interest in our welfare. The atmosphere is fun and the food is really good. We will be back!.
One of my favourite places to stay. Excellent hotel and a complete change from the usual drab corporate style hotels.
Large, comfy, snug rooms with a great themed restaurant.
Nicky and her team always make you feel welcome.
We have stayed there a few times the service is always very good
and we like the breakfast, as it is cooked to order rather than
help yourself, our stays in Tun Wells you are our first choice.Keep
up the standard.
The room was really clean, very comfrotable and nicely furnished. The en-suite was modern and very clean too. Evening meal was good. I need a gluten free diet and was able to eat chicken and jacket potato.
Very comfortable and spacious room with good en-suite facilities.
Themed bar /restaurant. Polite and efficient staff.
Lots of information about local attractions.
Super breakfast. Good all day menu.
The converted railway building this hotel restaurant has been built in is fabulous. The room was really comfortable, the facilities up to date and high quality - attention to detail in everything.
If you like all things american then this is for you. Built like a western saloon, with american beers and american style food..........and ameican country music. GREAT.
A great budget hotel with western atmosphere and stunning, almost over the top, Christmas decorations. A fun one night stay with delicious American style food.
Our room ... Breakfast ... Proximity to the pantiles and the steam train ... The friendliness of the staff ... Good for town and countryside ... Thank you.
All was cool with this hotel.
Rooms were themed and very clean, staff were really nice, food was good, and in a prime location to shops etc.
Our room was really lovely, it had everything we needed and the bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was big with a great shower!.

Quite a fun place - liked the room and it was very convenient for our night out at the Forum.
The staff where friendly and it was quite good staying at a lively place.
The rooms were very clean, tidy, and comfortable.
Clean friendly different. Great breakfast.
the building
quirky theme
location.
Friendly staff.
Nothing at all.
Nothing.
Nothing.
Bedrooms could be noisy with enthusiastic revellers in the bar / diner below (not unexpected!), and would prefer a kettle and tea bags to the natty coffee machine provided, but other than that nothing to detract.
Nothing.
if I was to be picky, the meal prices are starting to creep up a little.
We could not stay longer but seeing Joe Brown made up for that.
The cowboy theme and music.
Breakfast options not suitable for a gluten free diet. The only option was fruit but I had to wait ages for this and ultimately had to cancel as my taxi was imminent. I therefore missed my breakfast.
Bar was a bit expensive.
Can't fault it at all.
Loved it all.
The cleaning being done while we were having breakfast.
Beer is served by the half pint, or 2 pint jugs, or bigger! Call me old fashioned, but what happened to the good old fashioned Pint? Beer was good tho!!.
There were some problems with the wifi.
beer only sold in 1/2 pint
or 2 pint - 4pint - 6pint.
no sinle pints alloud. why???
had to wait over an hour for breakfast which made me late for a meeting, also the waitress at breakfast didnt seem to care about people waiting.
Slightly out of town.
No way of getting just hot water from coffee machine.
Dinner in themed restaurant somewhat expensive!.
Lack of self service breakfast and kettle in room.
Restaurant a bit chilly first thing in morning.
Felt a little rushed out of rooms as maintenance was taking place....the result though is a very well kept establishment.
The cleaners in the morning! Arghhh! I have stayed here a few times and these two cleaners woke me up early in the morning and were so loud. Please can you ask your cleaners to be more quiet! The pair were just so loud, chatting from early am until check out and the voices boomed into the room.Very disturbing. Can you ask them to lower their voices please? The noise from their chats echoed into the room and made the morning unpleasant, alas. Thanks.
N/A.
The tea/coffee machine, we found the results too strong for our taste.
The fact you can only buy half a pint or two pints of beer no pints available.
Going to Bed at 2215, in Commanche Room, I had to go down stairs to complain about the music noise, although turned down, did not cease to come through the Room, until 2330.A king size Bed would have been better than a double.
The tea making facilities in the room. Give me a proper kettle any day!.
Feint noise from bar and clock tower 7am on Sunday morning chiming.
going home did not want to leave.
Nothing to moan about.
Noise from bar ie music slightly bigger bed maybe.
Breakfast was awful - half an hour wait to be served followed by a filthy teapot and very grubby cutlery. The whole dining room felt a bit dirty and the breakfast itself was woeful.
Bed and room were too small.
A bit OTT with the cowboy theme in the hotel / bar area ie the country music blaring out all the time.
No drinking water in room.
Not enough tea/coffee.
smell of urine around the check in area
small, stuffy room
no extraction in the bathroom.
Lack of atmosphere later in evening.
