YHA Wastwater’s wood-panelled restaurant has lake views and serves local ales. Guests can also enjoy a game of snooker in the games room, with its original brick walls.
Scafell Pike is less than 4 miles from YHA Wastwater, and St Olaf’s church is also within easy reach. You can go climbing, walking and cycling in the surrounding area.
Dormitory-style rooms are available, and each has a shared bathroom. Towels can be hired at reception.

The manager here is excellent - really knowledgable about the local area, helpful in his advice and relaxed and friendly. The building is historic and the location stunning. A hidden gem on the West side of the lakes.

A very good location to be at.
I slipped on the floor of the shower room and hurt my leg quite badly - the surface was very slippery and I suffered knee and ankle ligament damage.
This wasn't great as I was about to cycle off to Paris from London....

Sleeping in a blackend lightless room of strangers- all different groupings, some to bed too early, some later, some up early, some later: how to sleep!
The older people - that now dominate 'youth' hostels - tend to get their early and make sure they get the best beds in the dormitory...
Our friend slept on the sofa because they overbooked.
