  We stayed four nights in March 2013 and needed the break after being robbed in Auckland. Jan and Kevin were unobtrusive but always there with help or information when we needed it. The location is a few kilometres "out of town" and we loved this. The town was too busy for us with constant traffic and people coming and going on the ferries. The view across the bay is superb and we never tir - I found The Retreat while googling accommodation in Paihia. After a long drive from South Auckland I was welcomed with a big genuine smile from Jan, who showed me my room with the spectacular view from the deck. The furniture is a dated and old but clean and the bed was really comfortable. The view from the deck is spectacular and I managed to get some wonderful sunset photos.   From the outset, loved the personal attention I received. Had a call from management that they had read my special requests and provided assurance that requests would be honoured to my satisfaction - and they were! Absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Will definitely stay here again if the price is right, as it was during our stay. She, my dad & my two nieces who were visiting - The staff was really friendly, and the room was amazing. My partner and I were really keen to find somewhere with kitchen facilities so we didn't have to eat out too much and Sea Spray had a really good kitchenette and all the basic equipment you'd need. It was an easy walk to a supermarket as well as the town. Bar fridge was decent price compared to other accommodation I've stayed at. The room was really clean and very comfortable, If in Paihia again we will definitely book here again.
