The gentleman running the ryokan spoke English and made my trip much more enjoyable by helping me with several things -- getting my luggage sent to the airport, keeping my luggage during a day trip, finding stores for things I wanted to buy, lending me an umbrella, giving me directions and suggesting ways I could save money. The breakfasts were very good and reasonably priced. I slept well on their futons.

Spacious, comfortable room. And generally quite nice hotel for economical traveler. Convenient location, maybe 10 min. from Nagoya station. Futons/pillows were extremely comfortable, staff were unobtrusive, location was great and the price was right. It was very convenient to the station, the staff were quite helpful and the room was very clean. authentic Japanese Ryokan with tatami mat rooms and futons. Very traditional. Tatami floor and a matras just on it. Love traditional Japan? Then you love sleep in this. For the rest..room has everything. No water boiler but every day hot water is brought for tea. And free wifi. .in expensive hotels often is missing. I just loved the traditional japanese feel in the room. A staff was really good at speaking English and very friendly. Nice onsen, friendly staff, wifi. Good location. Check-in is around 3pm, check out is early 10am No non-smoking rooms, so the room was a bit smoky smelling (typically of this type of accommodation in Japan). Wi-fi only in lobby, room has only LAN, what might be inconvenience for some. Cheapest hotel I found in Nagoya, but relatively expensive compared to others I stayed in Tokyo and Osaka. The building is old and a bit run down, hallways definitely had a grimy feel to them. Smoking has left its scent throughout the place. But our room didn't stink, so that was ok. The bath could have used a few more amenities, like face wash. hall carpeting was too well worn, not sure about the breakfast... did not have time to try, though I spent seven nights there. Not friendly for people with walking disabilities. Lots of stairs. Up for rooms..other side of it down for bathroom and toilet. Shared bathroom and toilet can be a downside for some people. And if you don't like traditional japanese sleeping or if you cannot stand the smell of tatami floor then this is not your place to go. Carpets in hall need replacement. Little old facilities. Only one bathroom, harsh lighting, carpets need to be replaced. No information about breakfast at check-in.
