When I asked for a quiet room, they put me on the top floor and it WAS a quiet, beautifully appointed, newly decorated room that gave me the serenity I was seeking.   What a classic! I loved it and felt that I was a part of the real Victoria that many never see. The quiet location within walking distance of the downtown and transit to the rest of town was great. The staff did not fall all over us which to me is more comfortable than being fussed over. They were pleasant, helpful and unobtrusive. This gave me a chance to walk down the wonderful staircase admire th - Firstly, one needs to compare the day rate between the Empress and the Inn. The Empress is only a few blocks away, free parking, free wi-fi, also doesn't have air conditioning....and is almost $300 more a day. As I didn't need to spend a lot of time in my room, the size didn't matter. However, security and cleanliness was key and the Inn met those very well. The restaurant is excellent.   We loved the ambience! There was a young man playing the sax right under our window when we arrived and it was magical. When we entered the room there was a wood smell from the fireplace. It was heaven!   I had a private room for a really good price, though small I had a fridge and lots of cupboards above the bed. Comfortable and quiet despite having a bar downstairs, soundproofing was very good couldn't hear other guests when in my room. Ocean Island does cheap meals and has a great atmosphere downstairs, it is a bit of a party place but as I am ... cosa dice la gente » over 40 not really my thing this didn't disturb me felt . I wasn't keen on my original room as was a bit stuffy but reception offered me an alternativ - We loved our stay in this hotel! We got a room with a private bathroom, and the room was very comfortable and clean. Hotel's staff was also very friendly and helpful. The hotel's location is great - was close to everything we needed in downtown. The price was great too! I highly recommend this hotel and we will stay there again next time we are in Victoria.
