Wonderful host who couldnt have done more for us.. we left a bottle of wine in the fridge and she went to great effort to get it back to us. Not to mention the views are spectacular and is just a great place to stay. Thanks for everything! -

Austin Heights is the ideal place to stay in Kaikoura. It is located on an elevation outside the town, which can be reached by a quarter-hour walk down an attractive hillside path or a few minutes drive. Beautifully furnushed upstairs room with views over the town and mountains. A supremely comfortable bed. A pleasant, if hilly, walk down through fields to the beach and two restaurants. It was a little way out of town so a car would be required for further restaurants and shops.

We only had the opportunity to stay one night. Had we known what a lovely place it was, with such a fabulous location/views we would have altered our holiday to stay a little longer. The hotel is currently adding more accommodation upstairs and will be wonderful when complete. The restaurant Maxtons attached to the hotel is very good as well. -

Beautiful, clean and very homely feeling. Staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble, even offered to extend our checkout without our asking due to boat trip not finishing till after scheduled checkout time. Food in restaurant was amazing and reasonably priced. Will def recommend to anyone visiting Kiakoura.

Our stay at The Kaikoura Gateway Motor Lodge began with an easy check in at which time the owner upgraded us to a one bedroom free of charge. Nice!! The suite was spacious and well laid out with a well appointed kitchen and there was a walk out to a balcony with chairs and a table. The location was easy walking distance to town so we walked there

Excellent staff... The owners were helpful and informative, and the accommodation was spacious and comfortable. It far exceeded the usual tourist motel accommodation in NZ. There was also a playground opposite in alarge park for the kids to expend energy.
Excellent accommodation, don't even consider anywhere else.

The motel was very conveneient for us as an overnight stay on our way to
Dunedin. We appreciated their appeciation when we realised we hadn't
been charged for breakfast and we then arranged for payment to be made.
All too often there is no thanks when someone goes out of their way to
correct an incomplete payment ( in our case) or something else.

Outstanding hospitality. We stayed two nights on different dates and
enjoyed it each time. We would go there again any time in the future.
The Motel is located next to the most stunning views and walks in New
Zealand. The owners are absolutely friendly and eager to help. The
rooms, floors, bathroons are squirky clean. The kitchenette is well
equipped. Two restaurants are just a few steps away.

We loved the location of this motel and it is one of the cleanest we have stayed in. Excellent standard and the host couldn't do enough for us. We would definitely stay in a Bella Vista again if this is the normal standard. -
The owners were awesome , super friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean, comfortable and situated in a convenient place with a short walk into the township. Nest time I go to Kaikoura I will definitely be staying there. -
The manageress was extremely helpful when we decided to move on earlier than expected after the cancellation of our planned whale-watching trip and went out of her way to help us find accommodation at our next port-of-call.

plenty of space.
All the units have a patio with table, chairs and their own BBQ though in the end we ate dinner at local restaurants rather than cooking.

We were 4 seniors on a fly-drive junket and pleased with our unit. It was spacious, clean, plenty of hot water, kitchen facilities were adequate for our needs and the towels and linen were clean and fresh. Great location, perfect views from the lounge to the sea, clean and comfortable rooms.Fantastic friendly and helpful man who ran the motel, he allowed us to stay a bit longer in the day so we could shower after our swim with the dolphins. The staff were great for attending to our needs. they are a 25 minute walk from town, we had a bus to catch at 4pm and we were able to walk into town in the morning and they kindly dropped our luggage off to us later in the afternoon so we didnt have to walk back to get it. They do the free drop off and pick up which was unbelievably helpful. It was a great price for the room we had. We required a later check out and they extended it by an hour which was more than enough and at no extra charge.
