Great hotel with excellent grounds, the patio area is large enough to cater for busy stays with sunshine,very friendly staff and very helpful. The food is very nice and reasonably priced also. We had a breakfast in the morning which was good full English plus continental with cereal and juices. The room we stayed in was lovely but we had a little noise from the extractor which once checking out mensioned this and they were quite happy to take a little off our bill. Very large carpark with free .

Quirky uniquiness of hotel, neither too stuffy or too casual. Its was unlike any formal or informal hotel we had stayed at before. loved it, yes, was very clean and comfortable, and relaxing!. Perfectly situated in a quiet location a couple of minutes walk from Stamford's charming town centre. The staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was most comfortable and spotlessly clean. Plenty of choice on the breakfast menus and the food was top notch. The staff were very accommodating we arrived late due to heavy traffic on the way, without any problem they rearranged our restaurant booking to a later time to give us time to settle in. The general ambiance of the hotel was unhurried making the guests feel more relaxed. I had been to Stamford before but decided to try the Wm. Cecil this trip. Excellent choice! The weather was perfect. Visited Burghley House and its gorgeous gardens. The hotel's pub down the street is good for lighter meals. Stamford is a wonderful walking town. I was completely taken back by the package that the hotel offers my little dog, Lilly. When I arrived in my room I found not only a dog bed, but a welcome letter and welcome food. For someone travelling with a dog this is the best service I have ever experienced. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, great bar and staff, fab rooms although a trek to ours. Very close to Burleigh House for a lovely walk. A few mins walk out of town but nothing too taxing.... All round great place to stay and I'll def go back. We were made to feel welcome by the staff and our room was lovely (19), with comfy bed and everything worked which is so refreshing. Location was superb and we were altogether very happy with our stay. We will be returning to your hotel. Staff terrific; Ambience terrific; Food.. Well, really very good although see > Despite all comments opposite, it happens, the staff couldn't have done more and I will return. [It can't be that bad again, can it?]. It was our second choice of hotel in Stamford this particular weekend and will remain so but I would happily stay again. Good brekka. Great being able to walk straight out onto the Burghley estate. We liked the location, close to the centre of town but quiet and peaceful. Comfortable bed. Free parking. We enjoyed the breakfast very much and found the staff pleasant and helpful. Food was excellent , we ate in the bar resaurant twice, the menu was varied and the breakfast was delicious with a great selection. Very good value. I would certainly stay again!. Beautifully decorated rooms all individual, great character, very unusual. Staff all so friendly and genuine. Luxury touches in rooms with goumet teas coffees etc., Bed linen etc,. Beautiful boutique style hotel in a fantastic location. Staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed a really super couple of days and will definitely revisit. The rooms were very comfy, pleasant lay out and welcoming, staff were all very helpful, Breakfast was set out nicely and a very good choice. Highly recommend the smoked haddock. Historic building nicely renovated Excellent food and particularly breakfast Friendly staff. nothing really...it was booked up full very early. One tiny point, no shower cap provided! The only omission in an otherwise perfectly equipped room. We had a room on the first floor at the front of the hotel the early morning traffic can be a bit noisy but in mitigation, the house/hotel was there long before the internal combustion engine. It was very very busy in the restaurant - and although they told us they were busy so couldn't fit us in until 9.30pm what they didn't tell us was that the kitchens wouldn't cope and we would have to wait a long time for food - We had starters (which were lovely) but skipped the mains as I think we would have been eating at midnight still. Can't think of anything. One hour ten minutes for a small ramekin of potted Cromer crab to arrive, served with a large knife and fork no bread Melba toast! Then another hour fifteen minutes before the main Bream dish arrived, beautiful food though. As for the cheese, I asked for a portion to be prepared to room temperature before I ordered my meal, so two and a half hours later the Brie was still chilled and hard! No chef, it is not a food health and safety issue as I had ordered it, stupid excuse!. Being charged extra for vegetables, especially with a main course which cost £24. Just include them!!!. No lifts which meant that to access the attic rooms one needed to be fairly agile and manage spiral stairs. As it is an old building be prepared for original sash windows which do let the wind through slightly. We loved everything about the hotel. Our only slight disappointment was the bar area which was a bit uncomfortable. It would have been nice to have been slight more cosy with more comfy seating. Very minor point though!. it did take me some time to find it, as the sat nav post code was a bit vague. Our bedroom was ground floor and faced the main road. Twin beds were narrow and not very practical. The heating in my room was stuck on full so I was moved to an alternative. The rooms has big hide chairs in them which smelled very badly. These in turn caused the rooms to smell badly. I had to remove them. Light sleepers would want to avoid rooms on the road side, it is busy from early to late (not a problem for me). The service was a little slow at breakfast - they needed more staff I ordered a paper & it wasn't delivered. not too good where plugs/mirrors situated re to see to do hair/make up ...no shave point in bathroom. This is Sarah Hoggins room 5. no adverse comments. The room was lovely but in the morning it was difficult for shaving and for myself applying makeup as there was no mirror in the bathroom close to the sink or daylight. The mirrors were in dark corners. Just a small niggle but next time will bring along a mirror!!. We were placed in a standard doube (23) which has very restricted headroom both in the bedroom and bathroom. Standing to have a shower was impossible unless you resemble TolouseLlautrech!. in room snack prices outrageous. breKfast stops at 9.30am. check out was 11am. hope you're a morning person!. No hot water in bedroom. Bedroom located in outside lodge Would like to have been Informed that bedding request could be accommodated. We were given ROOM 26 - do not stay in ROOM 26 if you suffer from claustrophobia and unless you are under 5'6", and, don't mind, windows that rattle, main door that moves and makes lots of noise all night, this room is quirky ! Will not stay again. Had to use newspaper wedges to control the noises. Also the extractor in the bathroom bangs all night in the wind. no dressing gowns no bath plug two dining rooms, but could not find a lounge-bar sad full english breakfast. Our bathroom had a "drains" smell which permeated into the bedroom. The extremely hot towel rail - which burned my arm on brushing it. Free standing bath with hand-held shower - water everywhere!. nothing. Very long room, My husband was unable to stand upright in the room and as uundulating floors and ceiling this was the case for me in places -height restrictions may be helpful! No electic socket by mirror so although there was a good hair dryer -thankyou I was unable to see my self drying my hair I had to use my reflection from theTV screen and style by Guess work! Normally not a problem but I was going out to a party!. The hangover. The only thing that was a little problem was the noise from the traffic outside. But soon fell asleep in the big comfy bed!. Room too hot couldnt open window because of traffic noise which was loud with the window shut. Needs better secondary double glazing. No eletrical shaver point in the bathroom for elec toothbrush. Tin mugs for tea/coffee? Quirky yes advisable no. room was a bit small and not 100% clean, carpet grubby, room a bit dusty. Having to leave............. The very long wait for breakfast Enamel cups in room.... awkward to drink from Traffic noise Placing a basket of very expensive snacks on the bed. A bit too in your face thank you. The overall price considering the lack of facilities such as a spa, pool etc. nothing we didn't like. Nothing. Leaving!!. Differences in rates between letsbookhotel.com at £80 and hotel rates £130!? Former good value latter poor value re alternatives.
