Friendly staff, lovely decorated bedroom room, lovely bathroom comfortable bed. Loved the fact there was complimentry water, free wifi. The complimentry newspaper was a really nice touch too. Its those little things that sets the George apart from other hotels in the UK. The doorman who helped us with our luggage was professional and helpful. Loved all the different eating rooms, they seem to have a nice atmosphere but sadly we didn't have evening dinner at the George but have resolved to come .
kaikki arvostelut » The facilities are everything you would expect from an establishment such as The George -the room was magnificent and the ambience of the hotel relaxing and welcoming. The staff are clearly focussed on guest comfort. It was a thoroughly enjoyable stay and we will certainly make a return visit soon. The fact that we were upgraded into a room with a four poster bed. Staff were very helpful and polite and approachable and natural - not at all stuffy.Food was excellent and plenty of it even if the prices in the dining room were a little steep. Beautiful old coaching inn retaining olde worlde charm with lovely comfortable lounges for guests to relax. Super attentive staff who are at your beck and call. Positioned perfectly for Burghley House and shopping in Stamfords one off shops. A wonderful, unique, quirky hotel that's full of history. The room was superb, the food excellent and the staff as friendly and helpful as it's possible to be. One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. We'll be back!. One of the old traditional English hotels stayed in by my family since the twenties. Has retained this "feel" of solidity and excellence. Staff and rooms very good indeed but not "modern". Great bars and restaurant. Warm welcome. Not eager to get my credit card which made the hotel more personal and user friendly. Room small but well designed Speed my breakfast was prepared and helpfulness of waitress. All staff very helpful. Old school. Very traditional , comfortable . The room was excellent and the old world charm was most enjoyable. I been going to the George on and off for 40 years and it has always maintained a high standard. Decadent as ever. Amazing ambience that makes you feel relaxed and comfortable in all the public spaces as well as the bedrooms. Character and comfort abound in a variety of cosy spaces both indoors and outside. The staff, service and food were all excellent. I only stayed one night following a funeral, so only had the chance to savour the breakfast, which was freshly cooked and delicious. The staff were always there in sufficient numbers to ensure the highest quality of service and they all seemed to be very well trained and to enjoy their work. The overall ambience. Everything about the place public rooms restaurants bars all ideal. Our second visit from a long way awway but well worth the effort in getting there. Hotel was delightfully furnished, rooms individual and comfortable and staff friendly and relaxed. Food imaginative and excellently presented. The whole experience, from booking through to departure, I could not fault the hotel at all. A marvellous couple of days and nights. We thought that we would need a dinner jacket for dinner from the sign on reception but it would seem this only applies to a certain restaurant. When we left the hotel for dinner elsewhere we saw other people in the Garden restaurant in casual wear. This needs to be made clearer what dress code applies in what restaurant. The long walk from the car park in inclement weather. A bit pricey. Nothing. Too old-fashioned even for me when guest is asked to wear tie and jacket in the dining-room!!! Out of touch with Europe - the world!! Don't like lounges full of business meetings at nine in the morning. What do they pay?. I wouldn't describe the room as luxury although itwas very comfortable. The food is generally good but not top notch. It is traditional, and nothing wrong with that if done really well, but, for example, two of us had roast beef which looked good while being carved but turned out to be a bit chewy and lacking flavour. It's probably an unfair criticism, given that I was there in the middle of a heat wave, but the bedroom was very hot and the otherwise laudable custom of pulling down the very heavy blinds cut off any breeze and putting on some lights made it even hotter. Perhaps some variation could be made in practice depending on weather conditions. Nothing to mention. Looking a little shabby. Disappointed with sheet and blanket for bedding. Decorative throw FAR too heavy on the bed. No tea/coffee faclities in bedroom. complimentary early morning tea tray brought to room was mediocre. The room service , and a la carte menus looked more than a little expensive for a country town hotel. Even at Booking.com rates, the rooms are pricey!!. Everrything very satisfactory. As a sole diner I did have rather too long at table between courses for comfort on one occasion. Unfortunately, my husband had the misfortune of tripping and falling down the main staircase. Fortunately, other than his pride, he incurred no serious injury. However, the two receptionists on the main desk at the time were clearly witness to what happened but much to our surprise, did not at any time offer to help him. Would have liked tea and coffee making facilities in our room. The Guardian newspaper was only available at a charge compared to free copy of The Times. our room overlooked the courtyard which can be a little loud in the evenings. Room a bit cramped My wife said that the hairdryer flex was too short. They didn't light the fire in the bar not very cosy in there, food was nice but didn't think much to prawns in such a lot of batter. Nothing. The creaking corridors and staircases. The lack of a lift. Some of the prices for food and drink. The raised step to the bath from which my wife had a heavy painful fall which is still a struggle for her. Nothing. nothing. Lack of tea & coffee making facilities in the bedroom. Bar prices are at the top end of the market, to expensive. the price of the room. Rooms old fashioned and in need of sympathetic modernisation. Nothing,. The amount of stairs. A lot of noise during the early hours of staff moving garden furniture. No child facilities but we were offered a smaller meal at the restaurant. We could not get a seat anywhere in the hotels other than our room. We went downstairs to try to get a snack but were unable to, and was not prepared to pay £32 pound to have a sandwich each delivered to the room. We had to book outside the hotel for dinner. On booking out we mentioned this at reception and were told if we have spoken to a member of staff they would have sorted something for us as people staying at the hotel are given priority, we were not aware of this. Creaky floor outside room 51. Difficult to avoid in an old building but was woken up several times because of it. We had a superior room but, with no fridge, the water was room tempThe bed was a 4 poster but too small and we were assured it would be king sized. nothing.
