Set on the banks of the River Rhine, this designer hostel is next to the old city gate of St. Alban. It combines historic architecture with contemporary interiors and offers free WiFi and free Mobility Ticket for the use of public transport in Basel. St. Alban Youth Hostel was designed by the innovative architects Buchner & Bründler. Its reception, lounge and dining area are all one big open space with a modern design and furnishing. Youth Hostel St. Alban features both bedrooms with private bathrooms and shared dormitory rooms. All have a minimalist design but are still extremely comfortable. Expect lots of wood furniture and large windows. Set in the heart of Basel, the hostel is just 100 metres from Basel Paper Mill, a paper, printing and writing museum. Basel St. Albantal ferry dock and Hardstrasse tram stop are also 100 metres away. The Basel SBB Train Station is a 15-minute walk away.

It was a fantastic stay with this Hostel..clean.. lovely food.. quit with excellent scenery out side and great atmosphere inside... Staff was very friendly from reception to Buffet staff..accessible to public transport specially to Train Main Station.so guy if you going to Basel Switzerland please pick and booked to this place i can guarantee a 100% satisfaction... looking forward to stay in the future i am back to Swiss land.
kaikki arvostelut » I had my passport nicked while at a bathhouse. The staff at the reception were very helpful and put up well with a panicked traveler. The babbling brook right outside is a very nice touch. Breakfast is good. Nice bread, nice cheeses, yogurt, cereals, coffee is gratis in the morning. Overall, it's a very nice hostel though only a hostel which are generally only as good as the guests who are present. It was a generally good and cool place to stay. The staff solved most of my issues. For instance, I requested to have non snoring partners in my room (I proposed thing girls if rooms where mixed ;-)). They placed me with thin and nice Japanese young males instead, which also worked for the purpose of avoiding snoring.Don´t know if that was luck, but they fulfilled my expectations anyway. The facilities were excellent and the staff were very helpful. It was clearly being run with the ethos of a youth hostel: to meet others, to connect with others and join in community via the meal and games area etc. I was very pleased with this aspect as well as the excellent room and beautiful balcony. It was a very friendly atmosphere with friendly/helpful staff. It was great location, about 15 min walk to marktplatz. It was far enough away from hustle and bustle but walking proximity to everything. Definitely recommend this hostel!!. Modern, bright and very different, the double room was bright with a large window and a great view over the neighbourhood. The double room had a balcony and the whole atmosphere was very positive. Great breakfast in the morning. We particularly liked the cleanliness, the friendly and very helpful staff, and the outstanding breakfast. A brilliant touch was the free bus/tram ticket! Free wifi was also a great plus. Very friendly and helpful staff! Rooms and common area were basic, but very nice and clean and nothing at all to complain about. Plenty of showers. Located on a beautiful little street. Well organised for arrival and departure and information about facilities and local sights. Beds were comfortable, and fortunately other room occupants were quiet and considerate. The ambience of the hostel was very modern and cool. This is how a perfect youth hostel looks like. quiet place , clean nice public. I liked everything. No, soap. You have to hire towels. I found it expensive, though it´s probably the fact that it´s Switzerland. Also, it´s worth noting that if you are not a member of Hostel International you have to pay a significant extra. I usually take good care in reading any extra charge (and thought I have done so also this time). However and even though it´s somehow written in the reservation I didn´t realize this time and it was a negative surprise. Other than that, expect to pay/need to leave a deposit for everything else. No ventilation- when the window was left open, we were plagued by mosquitoes. The YHA was difficult to find initially, but once there, we wondered why the fuss!. It's a little bit difficult to find, but the gps on my phone got me there eventually. The shower floors get completely wet, as the stalls aren't separated from the rest of it. The price is the most I have ever paid for a youth hostel stay in Europe, and may just reflect the cost of staying anywhere in Switzerland. It wasn't centered on backpackers and had lots of groups of every age. There was also no atmosphere for meeting people. price is a little more than what I am used to for a bunk bed, but it was worth it. Was a bit expensive compared to other HI youth hostels I stayed in Switzerland. small car parking. Feels a bit like an institution for the mentally insane....or a prison. The showers were a bit dirty. slow reception service,too little staff compare with lots of guests. -. it looks like nice design, but the room was not comfortable at all. matrasses to thin so you can feel the bedbottom. noice in the corridors caused by groups sharing a shower. would be nice for a budgethostelprice; not for over 100 euros. great disappointment.
