  Everyone was extremely friendly just as expected from true Japanese place. A person from the ryokan met us halfway from the station, showed the way and helped with the luggage, though we have not even told ryokan about the time we plan to arrive! I believe those guys patrol the area each time a train arrives just in case. We had 4 nights at half board (meaning breakfast and dinner is included in the price) The staff were really friendly and not afraid to engage with us even though we had little Japanese and their English was mostly job specific. Our room was Japanese tatami mats and really big. The beds were put out at night while we had dinner. The food at breakfast and dinner was totally awesome and very Japanese with sashimi and sukiyaki

  We really enjoyed our stay, since it was our first time in a Ryokan, we were very happy that one of the staff members could speak english and explain the basic rules that we have to follow when staying in a traditional japanese Ryokan. I can recommand this Ryokan to visitors that haven't been at a Ryokan, because it was a very enjoyable - The housekeeper lady was extremely warm, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the city and the attractions. She made you feel very at home. My family and I stayed in Japan for 7 years as the company country president and I aware of what is good standard in Japan.

  Spa Hotel Alpina Hida was great! Everything about the hotel was spot on. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were some of the best we had while in Japan, and the Spa was an amazing experience one should not miss!   Great location- only a short walk to the old town and morning markets. Plenty of great places to eat in the surrounding streets. The onsen on site was a real treat! And it was nice to use their sister hotel's onsens which are walking distance from the ryokan. We loved the service. We were served green tea and local Hida beef jerky on arrival. We didn't have dinner b - The staff is nice and friendly. There was a receptionist that worked during the evening hours, her English was good and she was really helpful! Whenever I had a question or needed something she would even go out of her way to help me.
