Cheerful, helpful staff. High quality, comfortable room with attention to detail. As we are both vegetarian we were delighted to discover that the restaurant had a separate and varied vegetarian menu and were able to accommodate us as a late booking. Attractive gardens and excellent location to enable walking on the fells from the door. Good location in Grasmere. We had a lovely room (not large) but overlooking the river which was a bonus. Staff were very pleasant. Good breakfast with a lot of options but we didn't eat at the hotel for dinner as we considered it too expensive.

The Rothay Garden Hotel was luxury from the moment we arrived we were treated as if we were the only people staying there .The Staff were excellent and very helpful.Excellent bedrooms. Very nice location. Breakfast excellent with wide range of options. Evening meal excellent. Room was comfortable and impecably clean. Staff very friendly.Very pleasant atmosphere. Excellent staff and rooms. Staff were very attentive and we were offered the very best loft suite as an upgrade after our originally booked room for Silver Howe was given in error to someone else. Breakfasts were superb, terrific choice, supremely well cooked.Hotel excellent. Room very clean, well equipped and modern. Staff faultless. Breakfast superb. Lovely atmosphere. The hotel is located in one of the most picturesque villages in England. The hotel and rooms have recently been renovated and are beautifully decorated. The bathroom facilities and décor were excellent. The room decor was very tasteful in our opinion. Super setting and grounds although the weather precluded using them! Breakfast was substantial and the dinner was excellent - Tasty and well presented. Location, standard of completed refurbishments. There was nothing we did not like!. On our last night we could clearly hear loud voices and lots of doors crashing and banging late at night from the room below.Evening menu very expensive and dishes overcomplicated. the breakfast sausages were poor. The driveway of chippings - not friendly to wheelie bags! (A minor point). Strangly there was a sticky residue on the curtains. The electricity in Grasmere failed but staff were excellent in finding other hotels for the night.Dinner menu probably a bit fussy for our taste, but that is only opinion. On departure we had several bags: it would have been helpful if the door had been opened for us rather than us left to 'struggle'. We celebrated a birthday on arrival and had cards up in the room: it would have been a 'nice touch' if this occasion had been marked by the hotel in some simple way.Fixed price menu, would have preferred an alacarte menu. too expensive - not a good value for money. Dinner is too expencive. some of the staff werent trained very well, girl in dinning room for breakfast miserable and not very helpful, young geordie lad was spot on , pleasant and polite.The flat TV screen was in the corner of the room - not very convenient for viewing from anywhere in the room. Yes, the room we got the first night was not what i would have called an upgrade, had too lower ceilings so got very brused head, even when going to toilet!. Being redeveloped. Shower not usable (lack of temperature control) androom telephone not connected and as we were on 3rd floor had to go downstairs to communicate with the staff. We were given a reduction on theroom rate as compensation. The staff seemed a bit downbeat.Refurbishments were incomplete and building work was still in progress detracting from the total experience of the stay.
