MacKechnie House was like going back in time. I loved staying in an 1840 home with all it's elegance. The 12 foot ceilings, french doors which open up from the dining room to the porch was so quaint. Lovely English garden allowing each guest their own privacy. Rooms were super clean and we had our own privacy with our own washroom. It was super quiet even though there were other guests staying in the other rooms. We never heard a peep. We enjoyed having a great healthy breakfast to start.
todo comentarios » My sister and I spent the night for her birthday, we stayed in the Mrs Fortune room which was very luxurious for a little girl's first experience with a bed and breakfast. The owner happily showed us around the property and answered our questions about the historic charm of the Estate. The food was gourmet, again a first for my sister, who ate everything. It was a wonderful getaway, and so close to downtown Cobourg. Katherine gave me a warm welcome on a cold day and a recommendation for dinner in town that was excellent! The room was lovely and comfortable -- I slept practically around the clock and woke to a lovely fresh breakfast that took into account my dietary restrictions. Katherine thoughtfully provided a card for taxi services. I would look forward to returning. The couple that owned the Mackenzie house were an absolute dream team. Warm, welcoming, interesting, friendly, hospitable... I could go on. The breakfast was delicious and such care was taken in selecting the ingredients. The house was simply amazing. Huge and spacious, yet cozy and comfortable. Thank you is not enough!. We liked everything from the room that was big and comfortable. The decor was also great! The breakfast was fresh made, delicious and abundant but not excessive. Catherine was friendly and accommodating and so was Ian. We will go back for sure and will recommend this place to our friends, acquaintances and family. The proprietor is also a caterer and the breakfast was excellent. They are willing to accomodate any diet restrictions. It is close to downtown and local beaches. We booked the top room (suite) of the house which included a private bathroom. Lovely gardens and veranda off the main dinint room for quiet moments. the house itself is a treasure, the gardens are beautiful, relaxing and full of flowers. the staff were charming and friendly. i highly recommend the third floor loft! the breakfast was fantastic. this is one of the nicest b&b's i have ever stayed in! thanks Cathryn and Ian!. The Grounds, House and Host (Cathryn, She was super friendly and an amazing Chef, Breakfast was divine). Decor was lovely, details were sweet. A short stroll to Monk's Cove and the main street = great location! I love this place, I would come back just to stay at this B&B. We always find our host Cathryn eager to please and so helpful with local restaurants and events. Cathryn is a friendly, warm host and it feels like coming home to a family member when we enter her house. Liked basically everything! This B&B is in a house, built around 1840, which is immaculately kept. The owner, Cathryn Thompson, is an amazing host and an even more amazing chef!. A very unique B and B. A beautiful old house, like stepping back into kinder, gentler times. Gracious hosts and good food. I will be back. The breakfast was delicious and the owner was very friendly and delightful to talk to. Quiet location close to downtown; friendly owner; relaxed atmosphere; nice breakfast. The authentic antiques and art. Gourmet breakfast. Friendly Hostess, very basic and unpretentious. We booked the top room of the house in the attic which has sloped walls. People six feet or taller need to watch they don't bump their head in the doorways. The shower has a sloped ceiling and can limit movement for tall people. The stairway up to the room would be a challenge for those with mobility issues. can't think of anything. I would just suggest better bedside lighting for us aging readers. There was nothing not to like!. One hour parking in town. Very difficult to enjoy your shopping and sightseeing experience when we had to continuously move our car. Not an inviting experience. Extremely irritating. It would be helpful to know when booking if rooms are not ground floor, and not ensuite. There could be accessibility issues. I did not see this information in the description. Nothing. It's a hamlet, really only has one restaurant to speak of. Small CRT TV in guest room is so last century, guess it fits with the 200 year old house.
