I like everything. I booked the rooms based on the reviews on letsbookhotel.com. It was exactly what they said. The location is near to the tourism office, bus-stop and eateries. The owner is very friendly and kind even though they speak little English. Room is spacious and they provide Korean mattress for my daughter with a minimum charge including breakfast in the room. Yes! They provide free drinks in the mini bar and a facial mask for the lady. :) They also provide free laundry if yo.
all reviews » Location is perfect, 3 minutes away from the express bus terminal. They even offered us a lift from the train station, but we arrived by bus. Many restaurants (very good BBQ restaurant 50 meters from the motel) and shops close by. The room was huge and modern, with everything you need, big spa bathtub, TV, etc. Breakfast served directly in the room at the time you prefer (they arrived a few minutes earlier so that we were still sleeping). I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Gyeon. Very clean and very well located, new modern hotel, close to restaurants and 500 meters from Gyeongju bus station. Rooms are fully equiped with computer, internet and 50" TV, jacuzzi and sauna, confortable huge beds, insonorized rooms, perfect for couples. Breakfast in the room is included. You can get easily all busses to reach the interesting points, also taxi stop at 300 meters. Very helpful staff. As I stayed for 2 nights, a few days in advance they offered to pick me up from the bus station, and sent me a very helpful map of the 5 minute walk from the bus station. Had a new well-functioning PC in the room. Very good breakfast delivered daily to the room at the time I requested. All in all it was excellent, and is highly recommended. The Sugar Motel is in a strip of Love Motels in Gyeongju. On the outside the strip (a street actually) appears to be garish and Las Vegas looking. But the room despite its purpose was quite nice. Not too garish and the jacuzzi and sauna were an added bonus. Free WiFi as well. Breakfast in the morning was another bonus. At about $90 for a night it was great value. Top service - the owner collected us from the train station in Gyeongju and drove us to the motel (complimentary service). The breakfast was very good. Although at first sight, the 'rendez-vous' approach looks a like bit strange, once you're in the room, no interference and perfect accomodation in the room. The couple who owned the hotel couldn't do enough for us. They kept offering us other services, like free laundry and transportation to the KTX train, because we stay for several days. It was well located near the tourist kiosk, where English speakers were happy to tell us which buses to take to all the sites. Once you get over the love-motel vibe, the hotel is actually very good and very good value. The owner came and introduced himself, which was lovely - and he ended up driving us to the ktx station when we checked out (included because we stayed 2 nights). Overall it was a very good choice for us in Gyeongju. Quirky room decoration - top floor rooms are best as have a roof skylight. In the hall you talk through a small opening in the wall to the owner. Nothing really. The garish street that Sugar is on is a bit off putting. But this is a Love Motel after and Sugar gave true meaning to the word. Asian beds are pretty hard. We couldn't figure out how to turn off all the lights - there was sort of a night light above the bed which stayed on all night. Not a major problem though. The cleaners forgot to lock our room so when we came home after being out all day, the door was unlocked (but nothing was taken) - the hotel was pretty secure. The bed was very firm. As others said: this is a love motel... as all the other motel in the same street. It's strange but it doesn't matter. Maybe the color of walls. Kitch. But as the owner said: young people appreciate them. it is a bit weird. It looks like an hotel for fugitives couples who want to enjoy an hour of extravagant sex. not much natural light coming into the room. it s a love motel, so you will probably have to deal with noise of any kind if you stay during the week-end... Peculiar taste of wallpaper (as to be expected in a love motel). I liked everything. Strange wall art, lol. And also, a little bit of a walk to find nice restaurants. Room did not have a closet or drawers for clothes, which was a minor inconvenience. The aesthetics of these hotels/motels can be slightly disconcerting. But this is a minor issue. Small towels. Thought the Saturday night price for W80,000 was a little steep but Sunday was only W60,000 and they upgraded, so can't really complain. Not one single thing!. I liked everything. Bed was beyond firm -- very uncomfortable. The staff at the counter can hardly speak english, but the owner has good command of english and friendly. Nothing actually! However you should take in account that it is a so called 'love motel', so perhaps its not really a suitable stay for a family with children. Nothing.
