The hotel room was excellent; neat pristine and staffed by wonderful staff. I wouldn't hesitate to send anyone there the atmosphere was fantastically relaxing it had a very homely feel to it and was within 10 minutes stroll of the Lowthers pub, 5 minutes from the river and 2 Minutes from 'the wall' conspicuous in York. We had an 8 month old baby with us and the guest house were great with accommodating him - cot and high chair provided. They also assisted us with drying some of his clothes which was fabulous.
The breakfasts were amazing.
Also, the rooms were reasonably sound proof which helped our baby get a good night's sleep and also meant other guests didn't hear him!

The location is great - around 10 mins to the city wall and a further 10 to the centre. It was lovely inside too - we stayed in the rose suite which was perfect - very cosy and romantic! My husband and I stayed for 1 night in a double room that was fully equipped for our stay with the comforts of tea/coffee facilities, bathroom essentials and bath robes included as standard. Bar Convent is lovely. It's cheap, clean, safe, quiet, comfortable, welcoming and convenient for central York.
It isn't luxurious, but you don't choose to stay in a working convent if you want luxury. Everything you need is there and more, including a huge garden which is a big plus in York city centre.

Just a short walk from the city centre, this is a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. The garden is beautiful, with ruins and lovely flowers, and big enough for guests (and their guests) to sit in the sun without being on top of each other. Although I have ticked city trip, because that is what we did in York, The Lamb & Lion comes under a different description. It has lots of character. We stayed in the Attic, it was beautiful. Really comfortable. Brilliant being in the middle of York, parked in Marygate carpark and didn't go back until we left. Staff lovely, left the phone charger in the room when we left, Manager posted it back to me next day, no problem. Breakfast delightful. Would definitely go back.

Relaxed, friendly, accommodating, excellent attention to detail. I would recommend staying here than with a large hotel group. - good breakfasts, very clean tidy rooms, everything there for visit eg hair dryer, tea coffee tray
