We really didn't know what to expect aside from reading reviews.
It's different! We wanted different. We didn't want a typical
hotel room. We wanted character and I feel that is exactly what we got.

The Guy Fawkes Inn is such a great place, the location is spot-on for a stay in York, the place is steeped in history and the rustic charm of the inn is amazing, you feel like you've travelled back in time once you step through the door, but in a good way :)
The staff are amazing, very professional and very friendly, you feel at home straight away.
The rooms are great, very clean and comfortable with great facilities.
The food is outstanding! Presentation is awesome and it tastes amazing.

The whole atmosphere of the Bowen Hotel was great, the lady of the house was most friendly and happy to oblige with requests for an early breakfast. The breakfast was excellent down to three fresh berries to go with the cereals. Wonderful. -

Very friendly and attentive couple who are eager to help in any way. Lovely period property, tastefully decorated. I stayed with our young son and found the hotel to be ideal in every respect. Elizabeth & Spiros couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating. We were offered sherry and mince pies on arrival.
Cosy warm room with kingsize comfortable bed.
The dining room had an open fire, very welcome in December. Table beautifully presented with fresh roses. Large, tasty, grease free cooked breakfast with delicious fresh coffee and toast. Plenty cereals, fruits & yoghurt for those who wanted it.

very welcoming, unfortunately, due to snow we had to leave early and we were given a discount due to this. We were expecting to pay full price, so this was a very nice gesture. - very good breakfast and friend staff.

had a nice relaxing stay. Cottage had just been re-furbished and was really warm and cosy. Owners were really helpful. Liked the fact that car could be parked just outside the cottage door. Bus to York ran every 30 minutes if you wanted to leave the car. Really enjoyable girly weekend. And yes we would stay again. -

Nikki and her children Miles and Alicia were the perfect hosts. We
stayed on the top floor and the rooms were perfect with a nice view from
the rooftop windows. Nikki made us a lovely breakfast and gave us a lot
of information and directions around the city of York. I would recommend
staying here and would love to come back for another visit one day.

Great ambience of a lovely old rowhouse - quiet neighborhood - easy walking distance to the tourist sights of York - friendly and efficient staff - family room with queen bed in one space and attached smaller bedroom with twin beds was great - bathroom was very spacious in comparison to other b&bs where we have stayed -

Well appointed rooms every thing you would need. Plenty of tea coffee etc. Breakfast was fab good selection of cereal fresh fruit even mince pies and bottled water. Followed by full English and any amount of toast.location was spot on a nice 15 minute walk along the river to the center of York. Would defiantly stay again. -

Earlier that day he kindly gave my friend who had travelled by car a lift into town. Lovely spacious, comfortable room and well supplied with toiletries. Good breakfast, freshly cooked to order.

We were amazed! Not wanting the formality of a hotel and having stayed in luxury apartments in coastal resorts for our summer holidays we thought we would try The Lawrance. Blown away by the plush, stylish apartment. We visited York with my parents & this 2-bedroom apartment suited us much better than two separate hotel rooms, as it provided a social space (kitchen, dining table, sofas and TV)
Incredibly convenient for walking to key places in York; train station, the Shambles, the Minster and, highlight of the trip for my husband, the National Rail Museum.
The lovely Heather at reception is also wonderfully helpful :)

i was staying there for work and the hotel had a verry homely feel to it. i will deff stat there next time im working in york - Staff were very friendly and helpful. It was recommended to us by a friend. We really enjoyed our stay in York.

The apartment was spacious (a king bed in the separate bedroom and two chairs that opened out to two very comfortable beds in the living room), with a huge bathroom with tub and shower, and a fully equipped kitchen. Location, near a gate to the old city and very close to shops, as the main reason for our visit was to do our Christmas shopping. Accurate, detailed instructions for finding the apartment were easy to follow. Also the small problem we had with the kitchen lighting was dealt with very promptly, effectively and courteously. The apartment was warm and cosy and suited our needs very well.
