I loved the fact we were made very welcome by the receptionist on arrival, a very pleasant girl who recognised us from last year when we stayed there. Pleasant terrace in a quiet street. Not far at all from York rail station but I didn't realise this at the time so I got a taxi to take me to Briar Lea. The staff are amazingly friendly and really made us feel welcome. Everyone was cheerful, helpful and all round nice. It felt more like a family hotel than a chain hotel (and I mean that as a positive comment.)

Good price, clean and comfy rooms, helpful staff, free hotel parking and very quite location - despite being near a park and ride bus-stop for in and out of York. (If you wanted to taxi ride it was less than £8.) There is a gastro pub within yards of the Premier Inn (The Dormouse) - it looked nice but we had already booked for dinner in York. Breakfasts at Premiere Inn were fine.
