This 4-star Georgian coaching inn offers a traditional pub and restaurant serving fresh local produce. Surrounded by Hampshire countryside, it features individually styled rooms with free Wi-Fi. Dating back to 1810, The Kings Head is fitted with antique furnishings and fireplaces. It is supposed that the inn was given its present name for its close connection with the family of Oliver Cromwell. All rooms at The Kings Head come with cable TV and a work desk. Each has a private bathroom with a bath or shower. Free toiletries and high quality towels are also provided. Only 10 minutes’ drive from Winchester centre, the inn offers free private parking on site. Southampton and the ferries to the Isle of Wight are 25 minute’s drive away. South Winchester Golf Club is 1.9 miles from the hotel. The Kings Head has its own skittles alley, which is available for hire.

We stayed at the kings head for one night and ate at the restaurant there. The staff were friendly and accommodating, fitting us in for dinner at last notice when they were busy and allowed us to leave our car with them the following day. Our room was very clean and well presented, the bed very comfortable and enjoyed the overall feel of the place. Arriving in the middle of a period of hot weather we were initially very uncomfortable in our room but the management went out and bought a fan. The food in the restaurant was very good and staff very helpful. Only a 10 minute drive into Winchester.

We chose to stay here as a base for walking on the south downs the following day. Its location is very special - quiet and rural. Excellent modern accomodation in a classic English pub on the out-skirts of Winchester within easy driving. Included breakfast was really good and the restaurant was also very good. As stated the whole hotel was clean friendly helpful comfortable rooms , lovely restaurant, although my steak was not perfect, very good house wine all in all v good. The accommodation was good with friendly and efficient staff. The food was particularly good. We will definitely stay there again when in the area. Room and bathroom were good. My partner found it difficult to sleep due to noise from the bar downstairs but once everyone left this wasn't a problem. Although in a quiet village the road through it is very busy and with windows open could be a problem. Booming music till gone midnight, not sure where it was coming from. Feel the "kitchen's" attitude to minority diets was a bit uncompromising. Our son is on a gluten free/ dairy free diet for health reasons. He requested a started for his evening meal but was told non of the starters were dairy free. I feel a more sympathetic chef would have offered to provide something for him rather than him go without. Internet access very poor and inconsistent. Rather old breakfast, seemed as if it had been hanging around a bit (and we came down at 8.30). A few handy accessories like a shower cap would be good. Lack of hot water in the morning. The restaurant was rather hectic on the Saturday we stayed there but the staff were brilliant. Internet connection slightly intermittent in room. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. The room was quite warm during the night and we slept with the window open which was slightly uncomfortable. there wasn't an easy chair in the bedroom though there was ample room for at least one. Nothing. No kippers for breakfast. Only a hand held sbower with no shower screen. Nothing to dislike. Noisy. There was nothing we didn't like. Bathroom could have been cleaner - some mould in places. room 7. small, squashed, felt as if the room had been fashioned out of a large walkin cupboard. no wardrobe or drawers. We're not told about breakfast timings, therefor we missed it!. Single room is claustrophobic. There is only a small bad and small desk in the room. As the desk is occupied by a kettle (and coffee and tea stuff), there's no place to work, unless you reorganize the room everyday, and make your coffee on the floor. There's no wardrobe or any shelf, so clothes must be kept in suitcase (or on the floor). The room was somewhat dirty. Music (Noise) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. This could have been greatly reduced if the doors between the noise source and the staircase had remained closed. The single room (Cody) had no storage facility for clothes or other belongings. One had to live out of a suitcase. Could hear noise - music and voices - downstairs throughout the night which disturbed ability to sleep. Staff at breakfast rather distracted and instinctive. Also, not helpful to have vacuum cleaning take place in bar while eating breakfast. Breakfast was served from 7.30am, as I was leaving at 7.15 I requested that something might be provided (roll, pastry etc) I was told this could be arranged and they would get back to me. In the event no breakfast, no one came back to me and there was no one to check me out in the morning.
