  The location was excellent!! I can't say that enough! Basically in Puerta del Sol, with a subway station 1 min away, and at walking distance from the major attractions (Gran Via, Plaza de Cibeles, Calle Alcalá, Palacio Real, Catedral de Almudena, Paseo del Prado, etc.) a lot of shops, restaurants and cafés nearby, but inside the hotel it was reall... was die leute sagen » y quite, besides all the street noise.   I stayed here for 2 nights and I would definitely recommend it. Good price. Perfect location, only 1 mins to walk from Sol, with 3 metro lines and 1 train line to the airport. Very friendly staff. Old building but was clean and comfortable. Provided 1 shower towel and 1 piece of soap.   The studio apartment was very good and over-looking the main tourist area. Yet it was not noisy as the air-conditioning and sound-proofing was good. The first day the studio was a hole-in the wall.   Hostal Veracruz is very nice and has clean rooms with AC and own bathrooms. It is very close to Sol, so really in very center of Madrid and Spain. Everything is in walking distance or else the metro and cercanias are near by (at Sol). You are in the thick of the nightlife of Madrid and of the shopping center.
