Really enjoyed our one night here - exceptionally restful, though on this occasion hotel was fully booked (Glyndebourne season). Traditional atmosphere but far from stuffy, high quality muted decor throughout. Room was not large, but comfortable. Lovely garden right in centre of Lewes, and very comfortable, old-fashioned, public rooms.. Breakfast - now unusually? - fully served, having no buffet to contend with unexpectedly restful. Friendly and helpful staff.
所有评语 » A fabulous hotel with exceptional historical character but very well appointed and with all modern facilities. A warm and friendly welcome and a lovely room with a view of the castle. With convenient car parking the Shelleys is perfect for staying in Lewes and exploring the town and local area. we enjoyed a great breakfast. A quiet hotel very close to Lewes castle and town. The room was very spacious and comfortable, although a second comfy chair would have been good. The free car park meant that we could leave the car and train connections to Brighton and Eastbourne are excellent. Firstly the room - very large and comfortable and the bathroom was super (room 6). Very good breakfasts and the evening meal was also good. Hotel is well situated with a good sized car park. The garden is a lovely place to sit on a warm summer evening. Loved the large 'Superior' room. Superb big comfortable bed. Hotel has own parking. Great location in town. Convenient for shops, pubs etc. by foot. Breakfast all table service. None of this dried up buffet style rubbish!. This was an old fashioned, comfortable hotel with good service and great breakfasts (we didn't eat there in the evening). Free wifi was available in the rooms. Also loved the huge beds ( in room 2 at least). Central location excellent for exploring Lewes and surrounding towns and countryside. Being able to park on site a huge benefit.superior room was spacious and well equipped. I found the staff extremely helpful and friendly and accommodating. The main entrance and hall were impressively decorated. Central location with car-park. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. We found nothing to dislike - not a bargain hotel, and no frills, but solid worth; getting to room was a bit of a hike up and down stairs, but that is the nature of the building. Nothing to really complain about, but breakfast was pricey. The bar was a bit lacking in atmosphere. Nothing not to like to be honest. We would stay there again. Public areas lack atmosphere. Lounge needed background music to add warmth and some furniture needs updating. Our room was pleasant but the window looked directly into the restaurant so we had to keep our curtains closed most of the time there were only enough towels for 1 and 1 robe so I had to call down for more (having said that they arrived immediately!). Rather unfriendly, overhead lighting in the bar. Meagre supplies of tea & coffee in the room. Room 11; Overlooked the rubbish bins and continuous noise from what appeared to be the Kitchen extraction unit, even overnight. We were moved to Room 19, a vast improvement. breakfast - although very good indeed - took a bit long to order/ arrive, as ordering procedure seemed a little too complicated - eg using a four course system. Having said that, by day two we had got used to the system and it was much easier. Personal preference might be a breakfast buffet. Unmown lawn, garden unkempt Fiddly wifi codes, we were not given full information Room comfortable but a warren of corridors and stairs to get there, also dark. The school next door seemed to feel they had the right to block the hotel car park with their coaches and parents cars. This was particularly a problem when I first arrived. Nothing. Restaurant service was very slow over three days. This is understandable for cooked meals, but a half hour wait for breakfast toast was regettable. Slow service particularly in the bar. TV in room had to be tuned twice and we only stayed 1 night. Bedroom curtain hanging off rail when we arrived. Grab rail on bath was loose. Breakfast was very slow.Some light in the car park would be most welcome. The longer than usual wait for breakfast in the restaurant. I am sure this is not a usual experience but the breakfast was excellent when it finally arrived. Nothing. Real ale had run out! Rather tired decor. Don't park under trees in car park as they drip sticky sap!. Breakfast was a tad slow!. The route from reception to our room was long and maze-like. Bathroom could have done with more space. Expensive sandwiches at lunch time A lovely dining room, but very few diners - lacked atmosphere but food was good.The garden and the garden furniture needs tlc. too much stairs. nothing!. Space in room for tea/coffee making facilities. Unfriendly service in bar and restaurant area. the noise from the roadway in the early morning as I had a room at the front and the hotel had an early delivery of laundry. poor chair in bedroom. Booking on line to get a better deal rather than deal with hotel direct. Bathroom could do with an update. public rooms had little or no atmosphere esp the bar. cramped room and bathroom, poor sound insulation to above, highly seasoned bacon and sausage in breakfast. Bed too small -room 1. Very slow breakfast service. VERY slow breakfast service. Very old fashioned. Needs a make over.
