  It's a basic hotel, no frills, you pay for what you get. All of the reception staff were excellent: Very friendly and helpful. I arrived early and a room was made ready immediately. I had issues with TV channels and additional wifi was given as recompense. Good location, handy to some reasonable restaurants and grocery shops.   Our room was very comfortable. It had been recently renovated and was large. A very substantial breakfast was included in our room rate. We traveled around NZ by bus so having the bus station right around the corner was very convenient. The staff was very helpful. - Central to all of the shops, bars and restaurants.   I had read many bad review of Empire Apartments, and can honestly say I don't know where any of those people were coming from. The room was incredibly basic, but for the price, this is what we expected. However, it was immaculately clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff were so friendly and helpful, I couldn't fault the service at all.
