Pousada Portas da Amazonia was a charming old hotel directly in the middle of the old historical downtown of Sao Luis. The staff was wonderful; breakfast was delicious set in a lovely outdoor atrium surrounded by beautiful tropical plants. I really enjoyed the stay - the staff was great, helpful and able to manage situations that didn't necessarily run as planned. The location right in the historic center is really good to explore old São Luis and close to the boat to Alcantarra. The decor in the pousada and rooms is gorgeous and cosy. Really enjoyed my stay.

The owners Michael and Josiane were extremely hospitable and made our stay extra special. We were expected to arrive late in Barreirinhas but Michael and Josiane were gracious enough to offer us a ride from the airport since they were in Sao Luis for the day. Once we got to the place we instantly understood why this place was rated so highly. The food was cheap and delicious, the grounds were extremely well kept and the bungalows were very clean.
