The pub itself is lovely, nice and traditional with big log fires. The room we stayed in was located upstairs above the pub, it was big, clean and comfortable. Although the hotel is located in a quiet part we took a nice walk (2 and a half mile) along the canal into the city of Chester. We're there's many shops, restaurants and bars. The price included continental breakfast which had plenty of choice. alla recensioner »
The staff were friendly, informative and very accommodating. It was a really pleasant atmosphere and a lovely location. Also we had dinner on Saturday which started a little late as we were a large group and the restaurant was quite full - we got to dessert and the waiter made it for us as the chef had finished for the day - superb service and more than could be expected.
Our room in the annex was very clean and comfortable and the two windows made it very light and sunny, although it was not as spacious as I expected from viewing the rooms on line. There were a number of areas where we could sit either to eat or just to enjoy a drink. The staff were all very friendly and obliging ans we were made welcome when we arrived.
The room was lovely. The lady that was on on the Thursday morning was
extremely helpful. Location was really nice as we could walk down the
canal to the town which only took about 45 mins or get a taxi which
took around 5 minutes. The place itself is very pretty and the food
was lovely. I would defo recommend this place and also would stay
here again.
I had a wonderful stay here. The staff were extremely friendly, attentive and professional. The hotel itself cosy and welcoming and in a great location. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all fantastic. My single room was well equipt, clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.
Great location next to the canal. When you entered the premises, there
was a warm and welcoming feel about the place. You initially walk into
the bar area to sign in. Room was large, pretty modern. Breakfast was
served in a lovely sunny room and staff were excellent.
we have stayed at the Cheshire cat before and we love the warm and very friendly welcome that we always get, this time was a special visit and again we was made to feel welcome and we were looked after very well, we will be going back again and again.
Historic (old) building right on the senic canal. Comfortable bed and room. Clean. Good continental breakfast. Good food in the restaurant. Good value for the money.
Free, off street parking. Close to town but feels rural.
Great rural setting. Unspoilt countryside. Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly, efficient staff, comfortable surroundings. Sleeping quarters in annex buiding great for quiet nights sleep! Convenient to Chester city centre.
The hotel was very cosy and relaxing. The menu had plenty of choice and potion size looked good. Staff very helpful. Not far from Chester town centre. Situated next to a canal so lovely picturesque views.
Staff were all with no exception Great.Out of town but great location and lovely canal walks.Food first class and nice comfortable room.Posh hotels are nice but lovely to stay here and will again.Thanks.
I have stay here twice now, and the staff have always been very helpful and friendly. The price is very good value for money as the rooms are very good, and the location for going into chester is great.
Very good location right by the Shropshire Union canal.Easy to get into Chester. Very friendly Staff, clean and comfortable accommodation.Did not eat here, but the Menu was very varied and interesting.
The staff were fantastic and very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Room was really spacious with good facilities. If wanting to pay extra for a cooked breakfast, its well worth it.
Travelled with a toddler and 1 year old, hotel staff and bar staff couldn't do anymore to help. Very clean and spacious room for the family, was happy to let them crawl around unlike some hotels.
Excellent .... Loved everything about the place, very cozy to relax and have a nice meal, lovely surroundings loved the decor, new refurb looks great! Staff were spot on very helpful.
Welcoming hotel in excellent location.(Chester Park & Ride just 400 metres away).
Very good hotel and restaurant service, (plus quality food) and so recommended as a good 'stop'.
The staff were very kind and helpful and made us feel very looked after. They also gave us a tip to use the park and ride as it was cheaper than parking in Chester and just as quick.
Rooms where lovely and clean, staff bent over backwards to accommodate and welcome! Food was fab! Cheap taxi into Chester all in all a great stay will be back in the future!!.
This is a clean, well managed Hotel with friendly staff and in a perfect location for visiting Chester. Checking in and out was done with minimum fuss. Loved it.
Staff very friendly and welcoming, pleasant at all times.
Location of Lodge ideally situated.
Dining area atmosphere good and food very good.
Value for money.
Very clean, rural and quiet. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Continental breakfast included in the very fair price and it was very filling and delicious.
Excellent pub with unexpectedly nice attached rooms in an annex by the canal. Good quality at a great price in comparison with other lodgings in the area.
Good location, budget price, clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and overall impression was favourable. Would definitely stay there again.
The service during our evening meal was excellent and the rooms were well furnished and comfortable. The free wifi was also very useful.
Excellent quiet rooms. A good breakfast. Pleasantly situated with walks
along the canal. Friendly, helpful staff. Easy to book online.
Walking into the room was a pleasure, couldnt ask for anything more really, everything there. Staff very welcoming and friendly.
The resteraunt and all facilities.
The room was excellent and the opportunity to take walks along the canal added to our stay.
Friendly, helpful staff. Ideal location for visiting Chester and North Wales. Comfortable room, excellent breakfast.
Excellent, friendly staff, lovely pub to sit in and relax. Really lovely location. Good food. Very comfortable bed.
Excellent facility. Good public transport to Chester. Parking and WiFi good. Good continental breakfast included.
Although we arrived too early, we could put our luggage in the room. Staff was very kind. Friendly atomosphere.
The quietness of the location and being able to walk along the canal bank. Friendly staff in the restaurant..
Location from Chester, location of the hotel, facilities in the room. Friendliness and helpfulness of staff.
Location is fabulous over looking a canal with pretty barges and rooms
are modern, comfortable and clean.
Clean, comfortable friendly helpful staff. Good location.
Plenty of parking space.
Would stay here again.
Location near Chester and beside the canal. Nice rooms and reasonably priced, good food in the hotel.

Location excellent.
Very tasteful decor.
friendly welcoming and helpful staff. food excellent. room comfortable and a great location.
Good facilities over a good pub. Rooms were large and the rate included
wifi and breakfast.
Staff were very friendly & helpful.
Food great. Rooms clean & warm.
Great location.
I liked that our room was separate to the bar/pub so you could come and go as you pleased.
Quality restaurant; lovely room, very spacious and comfortable; friendly, helpful staff.
A couple of issues but the bar staff sorted immediately food excellent perfect location.
Rooms are very nice
Nice location too
Restaurant serves good food in a nice atmosphere.
Friendliness of all the staff
Near park and ride
Good food/drink at reasonable prices.
Everyone made you feel so welcome and they was so friendly food was very good.
There was a singer on in the background which made it a really lovely evening.
Room was spacious and very comfortable. Staff wre very friendly and helpful.
Once u flushed the loo it made a very loud noise, so in the middle of the night this was quite annoying.
We ate there several times. Only on one lunch were most of the portions quite small and not of the same standard as previous meals.
The only thing that springs to mind that my partner wasn't too keen
on was the beds. He felt like he would roll out of one and the other one
wasn't the most comfortable.
Floors are uneven but that is to be expected in an old building. Hot water in short supply in the evening.
Not much. Cant think of anything at the moment!.
Fish pie on second night but was rectified.
They have a problem with room 4 when I stay there, They still have a problem with room 4.
Nothing worth mentioning.
Bed was just a bit too hard. Breakfast a bit limited and the fruit had seen better days.
The room was big enough for a bigger bed and matress wasn't the most comfortable.
We stayed in room 11 lovely clean room but we both found the mattress very basic not very comfortable :-/that's the only fault we could find.
In hot weather the cottage rooms adjacent to the canal are very stuffy and sleep difficult (especially with a heavy duvet!)
Map showing location VERY misleading, as there is NO turn off south onto A41 when arriving from the East , so we had an extra full 45 minute journey despite initially passing within 1/2 mile of the hotel, and then having to go into heavy Chester town traffic to eventually get back to the A41.
There was a room above ours and those guest were a bit noisy early in the morning. Not a real issuse, just wanted a lay in.
Mattress too firm.
No free wifi??.
Noise travelled between rooms, so rampant rabbits or bad snoring next door may be an issue for some.
The service during breakfast could have been better.
Nothing to dislike.
Bathroom not very disable accessible, maybe you could have a think about having a room with walk in shower for those less able, then it would be excellent all round.
Being slightly fussy but could have done with a more powerful shower and the bathroom was a little dated but spotlessly clean.
No problems and staff met our extra needs.
Room was a little bit too small.
Cost - £178 for 2 nights was a little steel in comparison to other Chester hotels however location and staff was excellent.
We didn't get to sample breakfast as member of staff very ignorant,
ignoring our requests to serve some "non residents" breakfast
instead. We checked out early to go in search of breakfast elsewhere.
No negatives.
The staff were very ignorant at times and not focused on customer.
Gardens were not tendered well for such a lovely location and building.
The breakfast sitting was deplorable as asked for pot of tea and never received, when prompted she said she thought we had one but it was left from previous customer.
nothing.
Staff in pub left dinner tables uncleared for long periods.
Wifi was intermittent & unreliable.
Nothing to dislike.
Water pump rattled all night!!!.
Room 5 very easy to forget very low entry to toilet/bathroom...".....very minor complaint.
Could do with a little more choice for breakfast.
