  Austin Heights is the ideal place to stay in Kaikoura. It is located on an elevation outside the town, which can be reached by a quarter-hour walk down an attractive hillside path or a few minutes drive. Lynne and John, the owners, are friendly and helpful and made us very welcome in their home (as did Oscar, their irresistible Rag Doll cat). The ... vad folk säger » house is surrounded by a beautiful garden with a proliferation of roses, and there is ample parking at the back. Our room was clean and comfortable, a - Beautifully furnushed upstairs room with views over the town and mountains. A supremely comfortable bed. A pleasant, if hilly, walk down through fields to the beach and two restaurants. It was a little way out of town so a car would be required for further restaurants and shops.
