  The staff at Gion Maifukan could not have done enough to help us. They were attentive without being intrusive and after the first night moved us to a bigger room to accommodate the four of us.   We liked the Japanese traditional accommodations. The staff was very helpful with directions and even called our taxi driver when my son left his watch in the room when we had already checked out.   The service and comfort in this hotel is exquisite. If you are going as a couple in Japan and are tired of small rooms then try the superior double room at this hotel. The beds are huge!! Its location was a little far from tourist areas, however it is conveniently located near a subway station and the hotel shuttle helps you get to the train station. The staff helps you in giving directions. - Check in/out with storage service at Kyoto train station is a really convenient one. The rooms are surprisingly big and cozy with superb city view. Location is excellent to access the Nanjio temple and other famous spot. Dining and caual walking in this area are superb.

  The hotel is in a perfect location - right opposite the Kyoto station. The station itself is an excellent place for shopping and eating. In front of the hotel is the bus station, which has the buses that will take you to all the sights in Kyoto. Basically, the location of the hotel cannot be better. The room was nicely equip - Excellent American-style service (ie. help with luggage, staff always ready to assist), plus an incredibly good location, VERY close to station! (And also just across from a Post Office, coffee shop and handy 7/11-style convenience store). Room was larger than I'm used to when staying in Japan, and kept very clean. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful.   The hotel is nice and our room (two adults and two kids) was quite large. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We never ate at any of the hotel restaurants and so cannot comment. As with other Japan hotes they provide lots of amenities. All in all it was good choice and good value for money. The purpose of my vacation was to see the temples, see the Gion district, and dress up like a Geisha. The hotel is centrally located near the main attractions of Kyoto making it ideal for my vacation.

In front of the hotel bikes are available to rent which is very convenient to visit the shrines which are far away. The hotel rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Searched a lot of sites for hotels, ryokans for 4 people that didn't break the bank. This had a nice mix of modern and traditional.   Very friendly and helpful staff. Exceptional service. Small details that added to the experience, each night when the staff had laid out the futon there would be a folded origami (new one every day!) beside the pillow together with a small text saying something along the lines of "We hope you had a great day". I opted for dinner 5 out of my 7 days... vad folk säger » , and the dinner was great. The staff who served the dinner on the room was helpful and took their time explaining what the food was and how it was to - Wow! Staying at Nissho Besso was one of the best hotel experiences ever!! This top-end traditional Japanese ryokan dishes out luxury and service like you could never imagine. From the origami and personalised notes on my mattress in the evenings, to the amazing breakfasts (different every morning) and stunning service levels ....always provided with a smile. This great property will be a key reason for returning to Kyoto as soon as possible.
