This was exceptionally good. From the welcome, to the room, to the food. All were excellent. It was the little things, such as access to a community fridge with wine and water, that made the stay of one night really enjoyable, homely and friendly. Beautiful old chateau, every detail beautiful, elegant, harmonious, well restored with respect for practicalities as well (modern plumbing and shower), high ceilings, a sense of calm and beauty.... . Perfect location to experience a small village and explore surrounding vineyards, cities and historic towns. The owners are exceptional hosts and the property is inviting and comfortable. The owners are former chefs and the optional dinners are a culinary experience, in addition to providing an opportunity for interesting conversation. Worth going out of the way to stay here - but book early because Domaine du Griffon has a well deserved reputation with French and international travelers.

We received an excellent welcome from the owner who supplied us with full information about the area which we wouldn't have got from a travel book.
The chateau has been restored into a contemporary hotel with excellent fittings and wi fi. Our suite was very large, comfortable and quiet. The hotel is about an 8 minute drive from Carcassonne. It is worth visiting the Canal du Midi at Trebes and the picturesque Legrasse.
