All rooms at Tougetsu Inn are air-conditioned, with a tatami (woven-straw) floor and a low table with floor cushions. Slippers and green tea are provided. Some rooms include an en suite toilet in either a Japanese or a Western style, and all rooms have shared bathing facilities.
This cosy inn is conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from Nijo Castle and a 5-minute walk from Karasuma-Oike Subway Station. Kyoto Station is a 15-minute drive away.

The Tougetsu was the perfect place complementing a spontanous trip to Kyoto for 2 days. Excellently located. A simple but very clean and authentic ryokan, breathing the air of some decades ago, hosted by two ladies who make younfeel at home. Ask for true Japanese breakfast. Take a taxi from the bus station after arriving from the airport, and ask the hosts right upon arival to reserve a shared taxi (Y3500) to the airport on your departure day. The two ladies that run Tougetsu welcomed us like we were part of their
family. If you are looking for a Ryokan that is well placed for sight
seeing and are wanting to add this style of accommodation to your
cultural experience of Japan then I would recommend staying here.
Wooden traditional ryokan, very comfortable accommodation, quiet, clean, close to public transports, very kind 2 old women looking after the ryokan, green tea and japanese sweets every day in the room...
Atmosphere was very nice and they provide us with English walking maps and hot tea. Also couple can share the hot bath together.
We had a wonderful traditional stay with two lovely and helpful ladies who run this authentic ryokan.
I cannot add anything to Patricks comments, except that during our stay
the WiFi worked!.

Location, the traditional Machiya building, the garden, the bath, ladies in charge - for a Japanese person like me it was like staying at grandma's.
The bathroom facilites are shared - this wasn't a problem but if you
don't like sharing your bathroom it could be a problem for you.
It's a little hard to find but we followed earlier directions given by a review and had to trouble finding it.
A bit overpriced but still very nice and traditional. The tub was small and difficult to control the water.
No breakfast.
The facilities are bit old...but very clean...so if u are looking for
sth new n nice. Not here.
1. I don't like share bath room and toilet.
Cash payment, curfew (23:00 for bath & 00:00 for coming back at night), shared toilet & bath - I had to book this place because everywhere else was completely full. Some things were quite inconvenient & expensive for a business trip. Perhaps more appropriate for families with (young) children.
