This little guest house, has been the best to date, on regular stays in the Ambleside area, what impressed us most was the cleanliness of the room we where in, and the en-suit was immaculate, the room was classed as a superior room, and was amply sized, with a king sized bed with a hugh flat screen Sony TV, loved the working sash windows, facing the old Police Station. We stayed 2 nights celebrating my partners 40th, no faults at all, and a warm welcome from Lynne and Alan, the proprietors. alle vurderinger »
Very good guesthouse with very friendly and efficient staff. The double room with en-suite (£70 per night B&B) was very good value, well appointed and was very clean with high levels of local information. The breakfast was extensive with cereal, fruit juice, fresh fruit, yoghurt, full English breakfast with tea/coffee and toast. Alan who co owns Melrose house with his wife Lynn could not have been more helpful. A definite recommendation for Melrose House and will tell family and friends.
stayed here for 3 nights in superior room was fantastic room amazing and spacious and so clean. Alan and Lynn was lovely very friendly welcoming and always happy to advice on the area and places to eat, visit and shop. The breakfast was lovely with variety available and Alan always at hand to refill drinks etc. This has been an amazing stay loved it and so pleased we chose here to stay for our first visit to the lake district would definately return without any doubts. Central location in Ambleside within easy walking distance of the town's pubs and restaurants/cinema. Parking next to guest house, when available, using free disc system overnight (or using public car park). Good location as a base to drive/explore the Lake District. Rooms well presented, friendly staff and pleasant breakfast room. Good breakfast with options. On balance good value in a central location.
We had a wonderful time in Ambleside and the guesthouse was in a prime location. The staff were very helpful throughout our stay and provided us with all the information we needed. The Guesthouse also had membership to a spa which was a 13minute car journey away in a beautiful location. We would defiantly stay at Melrose Guesthouse again.
loved everything about the hotel, the hotel and rooms were spotless couldnt fault anything, breakfast was lovely, alan and lynn so were friendly and chatty made you feel like it was home from home, nothing was to much trouble for them, gave us passes for a spar which was lovely, would recommend anyone to stay here.
The hotel staff and owners alan and lynn where very friendly and helpful in every way. The location was very good as only minutes away from pubs and restaurants. The breakfast was great and the rooms where nice a bit on the small side but very cosy. I would recommend this hotel and we would defnatly stay again.

Bed very nice, TV very nice as well and very relaxing in the hotel room itself. Hotel in a good location too, about a minute from a lovely park and round the corner from numerous pubs and restaurants. Recommend Matthews Bistro, lovely staff and cheap, good quality food.
Owners very friendly. Spotlessly clean. Situated in the centre of Ambleside. Good restaurants/cafes close at hand. Convenient for the surrounding lakes/countryside. Breakfast delicious. Lots to choose from. Very good vegetarian choice. If pre-booked secure parking available.
The guest house was in a wonderful central location and exceptioanlly clean, tidy and well kept. The owners were very friendly and happy to help with any questions. We would definitely recommend to our friends.
Great friendly staff - Alan was a friendly congenial host who couldn't do enough for guests. Food was plentiful and excellent. Would recommend this guesthouse to anyone visiting the Lakes District.

The room and facilities were excellent. Alan and Sue are very friendly. Restaurants and cinemas are great. Really enjoyed visiting Grizedale and Coniston. We will definitely be booking again.
The location of Melrose Guesthouse was perfect, in the centre of town with all the amenities the town offered, but no traffic noise. Very clean, and probably the best breakfast we've had.
The staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.

The location was excellent. Clean & run very well. I was taking part in a cycling event & the owner offered the garage to store my precious bike. Which I am very grateful for.

The only thing we didn't like was having to leave this beautiful house.
The only thing I didn't like & I am hard pushed to think of something was there wasn't a mixer tap for the en suite bathroom sink. The parking was a chore but once I became familiar with the roads it became a little easier. The location was perfect after a hard day of activities you didn't need to drive everything was very close.

The parking facilities are really difficult, the SPA/Country club is
a good 4,5 miles away so driving distance. Room was in the basement so
not much of views.

There is no parking during the day but no problem if you are away and doing tourist activities. There is only one room at ground level and it could be problem with lots of luggages but the hosts could have place you at the lower level if the guests made request earlier and the room was still available.
Feather pillows would improve comfort. Breakfast was a good start for hiking but could increase the tastiness w more expensive bread & sausages.
