  Amazing experience staying in this 350 years old thatched cottage. The owners are very welcoming. Both dinner and breakfast are hearty and tasty. It was a great experience having our meals sitting around the open hearth. The host gave us a brief history about the farmhouse and the local culture. These all added to the experience. The farmhou... hva folk sier » se is located in a relatively isolated village comprising mainly thatched farmhouses. It is not overwhelmed by tourists as shirakawa-go. - Accomodation was traditional Japanese with futons on the floor we slept very well, the food was excellent (typical Japanese food served with all guests sat together around a fire). the host was lovely but it was very difficult as we didn't speak any Japanese and the host and other guests didn't speak much English. Over all it was a fantastic experience but a little expensive when you also consider all the bus travel to get to the village.
