Wat mensen zeggen
The whole place was basic but totally adequate for my needs as a
driver/guide in Edinburgh for three nights. Conveniently located,
clean, good breakfast, good atmosphere, all ages catered for. Would
highly recommend it for anyone who doesn't need all the luxuries a
much more highly priced hotel might afford. Everyone both at Pollock
Halls, Edinburgh and Scotland generally could not have been more
friendly, helpful and pleasant. An altogether brilliant experience. alle beoordelingen »
Fantastic breakfast choice included. Excellent value. Very well organised and a fun, budget place to stay. As a single traveller, nice to have so many people around. On the doorstep for exercise opportunities - swimming in Commonwealth Pool and hiking up Arthur's Seat - and thanks to excellent Edinburgh bus services, rides into centre of the city and to get to main cultural attractions easy, fast and cheap.
Staff were accommodating to basic requests and also well informed about
Edinburgh. Rooms are excellent value, clean and generously proportioned.
A variety of travelers were staying in the halls - can suit both
families and young backpackers. A very walkable distance to Edinburgh
City Center with some excellent sight seeing along the way. Excellent
internet connection.
You will not find cheaper than this.
I needed accommodation during the Edinburgh Festival. I stayed in Turner House. It was clean, comfortable and exactly what I needed. I paid £51 a night for B&B. Breakfast is self service and there is a massive choice available. The
Halls are about a 30 min walk into the centre of thecity. Staff were friendly and helpful.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the general atmosphere with the wide variety of people staying there had an agreeable international feel. The proximity of the Royal Commonwealth Pool (next door), for a morning swim and then on to a hearty breakfast, was a great bonus.
Good location and good price for central Edinburgh. Typical student halls type layout/furnishing but no worse for that as it was clean and well maintained. Breakfast (in the student refectory) was great. A better selection and layout of veggie and meat options than you would ever find in a hotel. A+++++ for the breakfast!.
it is an ideally situated, reasonably priced, good value room with all the modern facilities you would expect in a hotel room, but in a campus setting where staff look after you. Beautiful botanical garden grounds, fantastic unlimited breakfast excellent quality, local produce and catering for an international clientele.
Staff first class, lifts to all floors, free parking available, free internet, superb breakfast buffet, sink in room, daily cleaning, very reasonable at £51 a night.
Location a short busride from centre of Edinburgh, busstop right outside gates, buses 30 and 33 very frequent and run to and along Princess Street.
Very efficient at reception. Was given advice on getting taxi, map for
walking round the city and clear instructions on how to get to the
correct campus buildings. Great for on a budget, way cheaper than all
other accomodation in Edinburgh but still clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was great with lots of choice.
Pollock halls was a brilliant place to stay. I had shared bathroom but it was always clean and available. The room ample for what I needed. I stayed 8 days and found the staff were wonderful, room kept spotless, laundry facilities very good and breakfasts terrific. I would stay again in a heartbeat.
A wonderful surprise of an array of breakfast choices.
My room was cleaned evey day.
Nice touch of a personal shower mat and shower gel supplied.
For me the location was great, to the edge of the main city streets but felt safe to walk to and the next door hills was a definite bonus.
I liked the quality of the breakfast. It can easily compete with breakfasts offered at hotels and such. Easy access to the accomodations is a plus. Very clean room. Safe-deposit box was very thoughtful. Check-in and check-out was quick and smooth. Very friendly and helpful staff.
I greatly appreciated the ability to extend my stay on TWO occasions to a total of 17 nights!
A pre packed breakfast was provided for the days when I was away at work. Everyone was helpful. Good on site shop, bar, ATM, restaurant and secure parking. Oh and free WiFi :).
The position was amasing just beside the Arthur's Seat Peak from Holyroad Park and also very close to the city center. The staf was very friendly they helped me with any problem I had and they are very positive and happy they sent you this state of being.
The accommodation was basic, but clean and comfortable and surprisingly quiet, and as we were in Edinburgh for the Festival Fringe, we only wanted to sleep there. The price was excellent and the breakfasts fantastic, better than many a 5* hotel.
Pollocks is the perfect destination during the Edinburgh Festivals, as it is walking distance, great breakfast buffet of as much as you can eat - with a variety of food to suit all tastes, and helpful staff who understand their customers well.
Perfect location for the fringe festival. It is in easy reach of the old city and ideal if you are on a budget. Staff are friendly and helpful the whole experience of staying here was good, think top end youth hostel and you get the picture.
Great Accommodation at an affordable price, Ideal for Business trip or tourists alike.
Excellent facilities and breakfast choice amazing.
Great location outside town in beautiful setting, but close enough to walk into the City. 5 Stars.
Price exceptional especially given it was Fringe Festival. Accommodation very clean, staff very helpful, breakfasts very generous, setting great for being away from noise and hub-bub of city but only 15 minute walk from centre!.
This was my third stay. As with my previous time spent at the Halls. I found everything perfect again. The diversity of the people staying is really wonderful. I believe it adds so much to Pollock Halls. Great place to stay.
Comfortable, good clean en-suite room with tea/coffee, tv,; choice of meals at dinner and breakfast; easy to get in to Edinburgh by bus or taxi and latter quite cheaply; close to Arthur's Seat; friendly atmosphere.
Came to visit friends after , moving from Edinburgh to Cambridge in Spring. Very convenient location, room good, food excellant. I will be recommending the Campus to friends, hope to stay again.
Staff was super, attentive and helpful.
Like returning to college, cafeteria large and easy to maneuver. Pub adequate.
Close to city center, easy access to transportation.
WIFI in common areas.
Straightforward booking. Reasonable price for Edinburgh festival. Good breakfast. Comfy beds. You know it is going to be all you need without paying for facilities you don't have time to use.
price
closeness to city attractions.
Good breakfast catering for all tastes and needs.
I was a student years ago so happy with the style of accomadation.
very efficiant booking in system.
Perfectly located value for money. Secure and clean. Easy to reach from city center - costs only £5 by cab can also reach by foot in 20 mins. Happy to stay again. Definitely recommended.
Fantastic location for the fringe, rooms cleaned everyday, good breakfast and parking albeit limited spaces. We arrived at 1:45 on a Thursday and got a space no problem though.
The staff, above all.
Extremely responsive, friendly, and helpful. GOLD STARS for Hannah Spiers!!!
Good access to Edinburra Fest via two bus lines. Easy to understand and use.
A very clean and modern looking place. Awesome breakfast. Great bathroom/toilet, even thought it was shared, but it was just in front of my room and free all the time.
Everything, but room was a little too hot, weather was unusually hot but being next to plant room and all those corridor lights did not help, but that is not a complaint.
Campus atmosphere, great landscaping!
Breakfasts!
Friendly staff, well organised establishment.
Location within walking distance of local facilities and city centre.
So cheap considering the excellent service, the huge breakfast buffe and the perfect walking distance to both the centre of Edinburgh and Arthur's seat! LOVED IT!!!.
nice clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff, lovely atmosphere, very good breakfast and very good value for money!
Location beautiful. perfect for festival stay!.
Very pleasant stay. Am taking an OU course and we had a study day. Having a standard room really made it possible for me to attend as we live in Aberdeen.
Friendly helpful staff
landscaped grounds
THE fabulous breakfast
left luggage facility a real bonus
walking distance to centre
next to holyrood park.
Clean, comfortable accommodation and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. I liked the location being near Arthur's Seat.
The breakfast and the efficiency of the restaurant was superb. The food
was generous and suited all diets and nationalities. Very good indeed.
This is the second time I have stayed at Pollock Halls and again I am most impressed but the courtesy & helpfulness of the staff there.
Clean room and well equipped.
Good choice of food for breakfast.
Stayed over to sample the accommodation prior to the university open day.
Location, revisiting 44 years after the end of my stay there as a student, seeing how well the campus has been maintained & improved.
walk into city / close to lovely park / close to Arthur's seat / excellent breakfast / bag storage / friendly welcome / en suite accomm /.
Relaxed atmosphere, feels safe, the staff at the counter always friendly and helpful, the breakfast, and it is quiet especially at night.
King arthurs seat right behind accomodation which was great climbing. Huge good quality breakfast. lots of buses outside going into city.
the place is really nice, the breakfast is full english, with all the complements, and it has been so much better than lots of hotels.
I loved the location, room was great and the staff was excellent.
I would stay there again also would recommend my friends and family.
Everything ! Nothing for critique at the place. Good breakfast, facilities and so on, as well location close to town and GreenHills.
+ Central location in the city
+ Fantastic breakfast
+ Staff kindness, in particular wardens in helping in car parking
+ Quietness.
Location; facilities (excellent breakfast and self-service restaurant; friendly place; nice staff; rooms en-suite are pretty good.
Clean & as good as or even better than some of the hotels i have stayed in in the past. Staff really friendly & helpful.
I really liked the fact that some of your information indicated that you have a strong focus on being environmentally friendly.
I arrived late and found locating the house where my room was
located a little difficult. The house names are not well marked
especially at night. A few enquiries to various residents sorted my
problem fairly quickly.
Bed very hard! Slightly bigger shower (or shower in room) would have been nice, but not really essential at this price. Irritating that WiFi signal in room was too weak to use internet effectively, tho' worked OK in reception areas.
Dining hall is open from 6-7.30. Unfortunately, Pollock Halls does not
embrace the extended daylight hours of summer. Furthermore, although the
Bar serves food past 7.30, it was not very nice.
The hall for breakfasts holds hundreds so if you aren't keen to carry a tray and jostled with others for your food this mightn't be for you.
Being a bit of a gadget addict it was annoying to have no wi - fi.
I had the room furthest from the main entrance so it was a major hike with heavy bags. I wasn't offered or informed of how I gained access to the Wi-Fi, and as it would have meant a major hike back to reception to ask, I didn't bother!
Mattress on bed was a bit spongy, pillows thin, and bedding VERY synthetic. Perfect for easy laundry for mucky students, but.....
would have preferred wi-fi access in the rooms rather than having to use the foyer, and the signup procedure was circular and very frustrating.
Having only one key for the room, we were two older friends travelling together (ie not a couple).
Very small shower cubicles.
No milk in the room to make tea and coffee.
Would have liked there to have been air freshner in the toilets!.
I didn't like that in the hotel room you can hear whatever happens in any other neighbours room, like a couple making sex every night or children slamming the door :).
Breakfast is a bit of a 'free for all', but once you know the drill it's ok.
I love the fact that the weather in Edinburgh is very changeable... but some people may not like this.
Breakfast time is like a visit to the zoo only with less manners. Some people change to Neanderthal's during the hours of 8:00 til 10:00. This is no reflection on the staff or the quality of the food, which in fact the food is of decent standard.
Leaving!.
Nothing.
Had confirmed reservations in John Burnett, yet when we arrived we were put in Chancellor's Court. Although they claimed the rooms were comparable, they were not. JB had dorm rooms designed for 2, CC had rooms designed for 1 with a bed added to accommodate 2. very close.
Parking can be dodgy.
nothing.
If u are staying in a LG room sometimes signal is weak or off for the international mobile. Go out of the building, catch the signal again and go back to your room, it works :).
Location is good, but you need to take taxi from station which is usually costing 6 to 6.5 GBP per trip. You can also take bus but there's some walking involved.
Our room was on the ground floor next to the loading bay so lots of banging and crashing at 6 am!.
it was perfect no complaints!.
Everything was great and we look forward to visiting again in August.
having read further on I was unable to get wifi I appreciate that not all rooms have it but would it be possible to pick it up in reception?.
sometimes other vistors a bit noisy late at night.
Nothing.
The beds. Both our bed were poor, the frames were very loose and
creaky. Mattress very hard. The noise from a large group of visitors in
Baird at 1-3am.
N/a.
The mattresses. Have never tried to sleep in a more uncomfortable bed!.
The rooms are so poorly sound proofed, even normal conversation in the next room was a distraction.
quite expensive.
nothing.
- Car parking.
The restaurant is very noisy. As they welcome a lots of groups, you have the feeling to have your meal in the middle of a train station.
The shower& toilet not en-suite but as it is a halls u can understand this & they were clean & everyone left them that way.
Many of your visitors needed a lot more prodding to follow your instructions for re cycling / saving energy etc. You could communicate your rules much better - celebrate it more and why you are proud of your policy. Those that support it will enjoy this - those that don't care may be more likely to be dragged along if they are made to feel that they are the ones who are out of step.
