Relaxed friendliness. Accessible, by train, but feeling remote. The absence of cars and the presence of birds.Excellent food, served piping hot. The spelling of Strawbury! The high proportion of Lancastrians amongst those who pop by. The inn's nooks and crannies. The absence of pomp and circumstance. Real value for money.
John the Manager. Excellent welcome and engagement and cooks one of the best 'full English' breakfasts I've ever had! The sausages, bacon and eggs from the next door farm. Laid back and very friendly welcome. Location was the highlight,
situated between resovoirs which offer beautiful walks. The bar and
restaurant offer a great choice of real ales and locally sourced food.
The breakfast was special. Great value.
Lovely country pub. Great atmosphere. Very walker and dog friendly. Staff friendly and helpful. Food excellent and on Sunday afternoon there was a superb guy called 'One Man and a Guitar' providing great chilled out live music. 10/10.
The location, food and welcome from the staff was superb. This was our first time there and it will certainly not be the last. The scenery was stunning and the walk around the resevoirs was very picturesque.

The live music: amplified, over-loud, possessed a sharp, edgy treble timbre. It obliterated conversations in the bar on one evening. Service could be unpredictable. No menu or marmalade for breakfast.
Unfortunately all rooms suffered from a lack of hot water. Hand basin
took several minutes to drain.
We liked everything about the weekend. Thanks for a really great weekend.

New mattress needed in Mandarin, could feel springs in the mattress, and fan in bathroom stays on way too long when trying to get to sleep!.
appreciating that this is a very old building with lots of character the bedrooms need walls sound proofing.....

only had a shower would have loved a bath but next time will request one.
No dedicated shower in my room, only bath with shower attachment but no shower curtain. saying that my wife would have seen this as a positive.
Stair Carpet to bedrooms needs cleaning, creates a bad first impression.
Front door locked to car park at night and in morning I wasn't sure how to get out in case of a fire?.
Breakfast was disappointing. Waited over 20 minutes and when it eventually arrived it was over cooked.
Unfortunately there was nowhere to relax in the pub itself, it is mainly geared up for food, so there were just tables and chairs and nowhere to sit comfortably. The room was also very cold and the heating didnt warm the room up.
We felt the bed was a bit uncomfortable.
I'm back again a few weeks later - what has happened? It seems that if the Manager's girlfriend is not on duty, things go haywire! Food not as carefully cooked, had to wait til after 8am for breakfast when I had arranged with bar staff for 7.30 - even the workman who were updating the place couldn't get in; not conducive, at all for business.
Come back John, PLEASE!!.
Staff were very slow and did not take responsibility for serving customers.
They did not seem to think it their responsibility to provide what customers wanted.
There seemed to be nobody acting as the person in charge or as the manager.
Service was very poor..except at breakfast which was excellent.
The bathroon was very cold and the "shower" was completely inadequate to the point of being useless.
No beans available at breakfast.
Did not ask did we want more coffee at breakfast.
Room Teal Room - needs a bit of TLC and dusting
If I stayed again I would ask for a different room especially with shower.
