The hotel is set in a nice location convenient to Hay-on-Wye and the Black Mountains.
The staff were excellent. They were friendly as well as efficient. Nothing was too much trouble for them and made a nice stay even more special.

Quiet,comfortable,room
with parking facilities nearby. Comfortable bed, lots of floor space.Good quality furnishings . The full English breakfast was excellent, piping hot and individually prepared not self served from buffet trays that ,in many hotels are luke warm after standing for some time.
Shower in ensuite was powerful easy to adjust and water temperature perfect.
Soft towelling robes supplied was a very nice touch .

My husband and I loved staying here. We have't relaxed as much as we
did here for years. The owners were a delightful, friendly couple who
were attentive yet left you to relax (which we did in the lovely lounge
where a roaring fire welcomed us). The breakfast and evening meal were

Welcoming, friendly and considerate owners. Room had rather an old fashioned feel, in keeping with the coaching inn pedigree, but the bed was very comfortable. No TV but there was a bedside radio which is always a plus. The hotel has a luxurious guest lounge to sit and read in. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent.

Relaxed and friendly staff who went out of their way to help us with our 9 mo daughter. Hearty breakfast included. Freshly cooked, large meal portions from the pub downstairs. Comfortable bed. Lovely view of the garden out the back (room 3). Within an hour of many day trip options. Free parking on site. -

Relaxed atmosphere - Old Black Lion is a wonderful old period building- 13th Century! Friendly attentive staff, smashing manager. We enjoyed great food (had both evening meal and breakfast). Overall excellent value for money. I particularly liked the friendly teddy bears in the bedrooms- nice touch!! We will be back.... : ) -
