Situated on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, The Fairfax Arms offers 4-star accommodation and a traditional, oak-beamed bar. It has peaceful gardens, and is a 30-minute drive from York. The elegant rooms come with homemade biscuits, freshly ground coffee and fresh fruit. Some retain original wooden beams, and all have a flat-screen TV and iPod docking station. Guests can enjoy a drink in the bar, with its open log fire. There is outside seating for warmer weather, and a restaurant serving meals made from fresh local ingredients. We stayed at fairfax arms after a trip mountain biking in dalby forest. The staff were more than accommodating with ensuring our bikes were secure for the night and extremely helpful when we got there. We had a fantastic stay, the food was excellent, the room was small but tastefully decorated and the service was brilliant- particularly from such young members of staff. It was nice and refreshing to see young girls clearly enjoying their jobs and using common sense to tend to our needs rather t.

Situated in the quiet Yorkshire village of Gilling East, The Fairfax offers easy access to all parts of North Yorkshire and is close to Ampleforth College. Gilling itself has a lovely 9-hole golf course and an amazing model railway both just 200 metres from the Inn. For my part (and I have high standards) the Fairfax experience was quintessential. The Inn itself is a delightful building and from the moment one enters, you a. I can't fault this place because it was exactly what we were looking for and thanks to the reviews on letsbookhotel.com it lived up to it's reputation. The pub is a typical old country pub in a small English village and the setting is ideal and beautiful. The staff were very efficient and helpful. The rooms were very clean and modern and appointed exactly as described on the website. As a bonus the restaurant has a very good menu and all the food we had was excellent including breakfast. The welcome and attention of the staff. Nothing we asked for was too much for them. The room first offered was up stairs and along a corridor - difficult for disabled husband. We were moved to Room 9, and where we could park outside. Excellent. The heating was very efficient. Standard of cleanliness excellent as were the towels and bedding. Nothing. There was nothing we didn't like. But we stayed in a classic room, upstairs over the bar/restaurant. If you think you may be bothered by noise it would be best to ask for a room outside because they have other rooms. It wasn't an issue for us, there was no noise on the day we stayed. Car park small, but some room in front of pub and in side road. Nothing. Only one problem which was that our double bed was two single beds put together which created a very uncomfy gap. However, the staff did all they could to solve this and make it better for us, but it was still a bit uncomfy. nothing!!!. Some drawers would have been useful. A warning of the high temperature of the water is necessary (health and safety). Dinners in the restaurant were ordinary and expensive - disappointing. Nothing!. We chose a standard double, which was a lovely room, but if you are used to a king size bed, book the superior rooms. This is the only negative we can give, the bed wasn't big enough. Not much to not like: room didn't have a fridge to cool drinks, more fruit and choice for the first breakfast course, carpet breakfast room covered in food dropped by other guests. Nothing really!. Though the staff were very polite and efficient, the owner/manager didn't introduce themselves. Nothing at all. Nothing!. Full English breakfast was bland, which put us off having dinner there; only two tables to sit at in the bar area; Black Sheep pub ran out of Black Sheep on the second night!; cleaners champing at the bit to get into your room straight after breakfast; pricey, given the above. Not one negative about the place. Nothing !. rooms in main building a little noisy early morning with staff cleaning bar area and preparation for breakfast. The bed!!! It looked very inviting with lovely fluffy pillows and beautiful bedding, it was a very poor quality mattress which lead to a poor nights sleep. Nothing to dislike. Nothing. Room was too small. Not enough plug sockets. Arriving early evening when staff are busy so waiting in the pub with a case feeling awkward. Reporting a problem with my husbands main course and the waitress did nothing. However, Holly did deal with it the following morning. Shower appeared faulty so we used the bath, fine with us but not ideal as we used lots of water. Towels could have smelt fresher, they smelt bland. N/A. Nothing. soft bed having to ask for honey and sauce at breakfast. Think the chips were a good size but a bit hard - suggest double cooking then then they wull be soft and chrisp!. Nothing. having to leave. A minor point, but the bar snacks in the evenings did not include sandwiches. nothing of significance. Nothing all was great. Nothing.
