Alton Towers is a 10-minute drive from Shawgate, and Waterworld, the UK’s premier indoor aqua park, is around 20 minutes away by car. It is just a mile to Froghall Wharf, a peaceful area on the Caldon Canal, and the Peak District is a 15-minute drive away.
Rooms have simple, traditional décor, and benefit from a flat-screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Each has an en suite bathroom with free toiletries.

Our stay here was really nice. It's clearly a place taken care of and run well. Our stay made me want to give "excellent" ratings for all categories but held back to "good" on just a couple for the sake of a clear review. Location: - Shawgate Farmhouse is rural. You would probably need a car to stay here. It wasn't difficult to find though. Close to Alton Towers and the Peak District. No obvious shops within walking distance. Comfort: No complaints at all. Nina and James make a great team and deliver exactly what Shawgate Farm promises - a relaxing night's sleep and an excellent breakfast. With a pub five minutes walk away, or further choice within 10 minutes in the car, you have all you need. Whilst the location is attractive to those visiting Alton Towers, we used Shawgate Farm as a base for cycling with the High Peak and Tissington Trails plus Carsington Water all within reasonable driving distance.
Lovely clean cosy homely guest house. Nina was very friendly and
welcoming and always available at the ring of a bell!! The guest house
is in a beautiful countryside location, but just 6 miles from Alton
Towers. 5 minute walk into village for a lovely meal at the local pub
where again everyone was warm and friendly.
I would defor stay here again. it was very friendly and we had a fab English breakfast. the room was spotless and the four poster bed was lovely. we went out for a meal to the gosse and fox and the food was stunning. it was a ten out of ten. when we go to Alton towers again u will b staying again.
Absolutely brilliant time. Went up for Alton Towers and only 20 minutes or so away. Local pub Fox and Goose was excellent and food extremely good. Husband and wife team very friendly and helpful, like home from home, even down to flowers and card and balloons at breakfast for a birthday guest.
NIna and her husband (sorry, can't remember his name) were really nice people, even got an invite to join them in the pub quiz one night (not sure we helped that much!) Absolutely stunning location, and the apartment we had was outstanding, couldn't have asked for any more.
Went to Alton Towers for our anniversary and this was an ideal spot for
an over night stay. Room was clean tidy. The hosts were great. For the
money we paid it was spot on. The pub 2min walk down the road was great
for a night cap land lords made us feel very welcome.
We stayed in a beautiful room, the facilities were excellent, very clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a beautiful spot, great for exploring the area. We were made to feel welcomed but without being constantly bothered by the hosts, very relaxing.
This is a lovely b and b. The owner Nina was very welcoming. She booked an evening meal at the local pub for us.The breakfast was good and filling.We will hopefully return as the area is lovely and definitely needs more exploring. :).
Pleasantly surprised about how nice the place was,the great service and the location with great views and loads of farm animals , middle of no where with a pub 2min walk away with gorgeous food, and 10min drive to alton towers.
Attention to detail for every little thing to make you feel comfortable and welcome. This place is a gem. Location to Alton towers 5-7 mins drive. Best nature views from the hotel. Warm and friendly owner.
The size of the room was great loved the shower and toilet big enough for two adults and three kids . The kids loved the sheep I loved the views hubby loved the local pub very friendly good two days.
Very friendly owners. The house is a credit to them. This guesthouse also had a CL caravan site attached where other members of our family were able to stay.

stay away from the pub's food on a Monday & Tuesday as the chef
doesn't work those nights. But the rest of the week the food is
meant to be very very good.
