  I took my girlfriend away for the weekend, and we had an amazing time. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and the facilities are very modern and clean. The grounds are well kept and I proposed to my girlfriend in the rock garden, which looks like something straight out of a fantasy film. Wernher restaurant is quite exceptional. Golf course massive. Clay pigeon shooting top. Highly recommended as a historic and luxurious weekend. However I think you need to be in the main building - you wouldn't want to be in the modern block - no matter how sympathetically designed. That would eliminate the whole point of the experience.

  Sopwell House Hotel was a great stay, the room was lovely with a nice en-suite bathroom. The bed was very comfy and we could not fault this stay, which is including the staff who could not do enough for us. The treatments I had here were great, and it was close enough to St. Albans and London so we could venture out. I told my family and friends about this h - The facilities were excellent on the site, although it was a shame that we could not use the spa on the Friday until after 3pm, despite checking in. The pool was fantastic though, and the various relaxation areas: salon, bar, conservatory were all nicely done and peaceful. Free wifi was also a sensible inclusion in the price
