  Hostal Veracruz is very nice and has clean rooms with AC and own bathrooms. It is very close to Sol, so really in very center of Madrid and Spain.   I didn't stay at the hotel that much as I spend most of my time outside. But what I can definitely say that the location is perfect and very very easy to reach (Sol Metro station), the room is very clean, big enough for 2 persons with an AC, which makes it comfortable. The Museo del Jamon was right next to the hotel and is a great place to get breakfast, lunch, snacks, coffee or beer/wine. We would definitely return.
