friendly, funny and helpful staff. they speak english pretty well and make it feels like home. very nice and smart design for such small place. pretty clean for chinese standard. would recommend especially a solo traveller who would like to stay late drinking at the bar. easy to find from metro station line 2 and near a very lively Nanjing road. We stayed in a double room for one night only and were happy with the hostel. Nice big, clean room with a great view, big new bathroom. Shanghai Blue Mountain Bund Youth Hostel is a hidden in a side road (great as not too noisy) but has a GREAT location, about 3-4 minutes to Nanjing Road metro station. You need to look for the sign though as there is a few hotels/hostels in the same building. Staff was friendly and spoke good english. There are plenty of places to eat around as well as supermar

City hotel is in a very good position. Very close to lots of tourist
attractions and is very good for the local shopping which is right on
your doorstep. The hotel is clean and comfortable and quiet which is
great. 12 pm check out is a real help if you've visiting the local

I was looking for a hotel with historical character, reasonable prices and a convenient location. Marvel provided all of these.

The room was large and luxuriously furnished. Spacious bathroom which was well stocked with all the essential toiletries and restocked daily. Very comfortable bed. Well located within 15 mts walking distance to Nanjing pedestian mall. The room was spacious, clean and beautiful. I travel a lot all over the world and the Howard Johnson was one of the nicest places I have ever been. I have paid double the money for less than half the room. I was extremely pleased with my stay. If I am ever in Shanghai again I will definitely stay there! I was 100% satisfied.

Room standard was very good - It was such good value to stay here, convenient location, a lot of shopping places around etc. The room itself was good, though we had problem with airconditioner, that was fixed immediately by hotel, just a bit pity that kitchen equiped with not enough tablewares, that was uncomfortable to use it.

Lovely hotel - great location. Very clean and comfortable. Was offered an upgrade to a Club room upon check-in for approx. $75 per night. Declined the offer as room was expensive as it was, however was upgraded anyway which was nice -

Location is great.
Being a small boutique hotel, there's no crowd, it's always peaceful and quiet.
Rooms are self-sufficient, everything I needed, from a safe to the ironing board, is there. There's also a laundry room with washing powder provided.
As mentioned by another reviewer, the free flow drinks and cakes at the lobby is great feature.
