  Uncle Billy's has character! Lovely central garden and great view of it and the bay from the breakfast area. I love the papayas at breakfast time. Very pretty lounge. The free hibiscus blossoms are a nice touch. Coconut Willy's was our beer hangout. I really enjoyed the slack key guitar playing by Ben Kaili and the malasadas made by Baker Tom.   The location cannot be beat close to the beaches market and shops. It was like living in a botanical garden beautiful plants flowers and amazing pool. Walking down the pathway from the lobby to the beach was like walking thru a sweet little jungle ... I loved it! The Kona Islander Inn is like a gem in the middle of town.   We stayed in D35 and we loved it! It was clean, Internet was fast and stable and we used the BBQ every night and had dinner at our balcony with stunning views. Shops and restaurants are nearby. The unit even had its own washing machine and tumble dryer and detergent was included, so we could do our laundry the night before moving on.   The Inn was surprisingly exciting, different, homely and very memorable. We felt we were really in Hawaii, not just another hotel or resort. Irene was very interesting, warm and friendly. She was very generous with her time, information about the area and booked a lava walk tour for us. It's a motherly touch that a large resort cannot replicated (which I stayed at before arriving at Lava Tree). It's something so small as that that can change your entire vacation and make it bettter.   We love the location - close to the downtown, which we walk to for shopping, dining, etc. We especially enjoy sitting near the ocean watching the breakers crash onto the lava rock.   Eric, the owner, is an extremely friendly and sympathetic guy. Normally he rents out the complete house as a retreat center to groups. When there is no group booking, then he rents out the 6 apartments(each like 80 qm size) in the house to tourists. Living there is more like being at home then being in a hotel. We stayed there for 8 days and had a great and relaxed - Everything! Eric, the owner,gave us a tour so we would know where things were. We had a 2 bedroom suite with lanai and bathroom for $90. Unheard of value. Laundry was down the hall and free with detergent and softener provided. There is a well stocked kitchen for use by all guests. Very quiet and pleasant place.
