  First, the value. It was nicer than most upscale hotels we've stayed at, and at half the price. All amenities were for comfort and our stay was great! She found one available, offered it for $40 more, and we spent an amazing night in a gorgeous suite, 20 feet from the crashing waves! It was the highlight of our time in Hawaii.   Yes, the place is old and run down, but if you're looking for a clean, budget-friendly place, it's fine. Great shower. We got a free upgrade to a room with a king-size bed, so that was very nice. The rooms are huge and kept clean. They offer free breakfast (some pastries, bananas, juice, coffee, and tea) which is very convenient to start a busy day on Kauai. We liked our stay in Sands hotel and will definitely go there again.
