Situated in Snowdonia National Park, Penhelig Arms has a waterside location at the mouth of the Dyfi estuary. It offers fresh seafood and a range of other dishes, and has a real log fire in winter. You can dine in Fisherman’s Bar, or the waterfront restaurant, which offers crab, bass and bream fresh from the quay. Welsh beef and lamb are both on the menu, and a full cooked breakfast is provided in the morning. Rooms at Penhelig Arms have simple décor and come with facilities for making tea and coffee. Each also has a TV, and a bathroom with a hairdryer. Wi-Fi is free throughout the building, and there is free parking available on site. Aberdovey Golf Course is less than a mile away, and Penhelig Rail Station is 50 metres away.

The staff were very helpful, we needed an early start for fishing so they provided a packed lunch/breakfast instead of breakfast, an egg sandwich, a really good egg sandwich, good thick wholemeal bread, plenty of egg and seasoned to perfection, anyone who takes care in a simple sandwich takes pride in their cooking, and so it proved to be. The staff were a delight if sometimes hard-pressed. The suite, its view and its dedicated parking were lovely. The proximity to the beach, lovely inland walks and the railway made everything really easy. The bar area was very comfortable and hospitable.
kaikki arvostelut » Lovely welcome on arrival. Location is very good with amazing view from out room over the estuary. There is a road right outside the hotel but not too busy. Breakfast was very generous although too much for us. Good value for money. The location is exceptional, right opposite the sea wall. The staff were extremely welcoming and the room, though small, with a sea view and modern ensuite was really comfy -ideal for a single woman traveller. Good value. The room was clean, relaxing and comfortable. Shower was fantastic! Breakfast was 10/10. Location was convenient for other pubs and the beach. Staff were courteous and friendly. The bar food was good value and very tasty. The convenience of the hotel when travelling to the area by train - just a few yards from Penhelig station. The accommodation was spacious, clean and comfortable. Restaurant and meals - well prepared and thought out. Very large room, excellently furnished. Very comfortable. Excellent location on the waterfront - weather was poor when I stayed, but it must be wonderful to sit outside with a drink in summer. We were upgraded as soon as we got there to the suite behind the Hotel. It was for my husband's 65th so it was nice & peaceful for us. We also had a lovely mean in the restaurant. Very friendly staff, reasonable price and excellent views from room. Also had dinner in the restaurant and the food was much better than expected - very good indeed!. The staff and management are the most helpful and very very helpful.The view from our room window was delightful and the food was great. Will stay again. Lovely homely feel to the place, great food and superb open fire in the bar. Additional bonus, no TV , pool tables or fruit machine in the bar areas. The room was better than we expected as the photo description did not do justice. Tea making facilities were a surprise and breakfast was excellent. Setting over looking the Dovey estuary. Comfy bed. The food was good. room was very nice but it was expected as it was very expensive(penhelig suite). the view looking over the river and breakfast was very nice 10/10. bar meals finished a bit early, a bit more coffee and tea supplies in the room would be nice. Waiting an hour for eggs benedict at breakfast time! Discovering all fish and lamb dishes had disappeared from the menu on Sunday night was a great disappointment. The only negative was the cost of my starter. Nearly £8 for two scallops and a large prawn!. The "small double" was a bit squashed but no real complaints. Nothing else was negative at all. As it was very hot the room could have benefitted from some form of air conditioning being available. Not a critism, more a piece of advice - if coming by train, get off at Penhelig rather than Aberdovey. Although quite quirky, the fact that you step out of the front door into the main road (quite literally, as there's no pavement) was a little off putting, but not enough to really affect experience. Leaving !. Wish we had known there was a cheaper dinner menu than the one we read on the outside wall because we realized afterwards it was probably the best place to eat. We had a dreadful one in the town centre!. Cheap coffee in room. a small caffiteria and some nice coffee would have been a touch more in keeping with the room rate. parts of the bedroom could have been a little cleaner. Lack of hot water. Insufficient choice of vegetarian meals. That I can't stay for longer. When we stayed the kitchen seemed to be in disarray with the quality of evening meals a bit hit and miss. There are also a few little maintenance issues, such as the condition of some of the front windows, need attention. Breakfast was chaotic: slow, messy and the coffee was terrible - probably instant - really not what one would expect from otherwise such an excellent place, and it is of course the last part of the experience and one you are left with. Nothing. a bit awkward getting luggage to third floor & front door opens straight on to road. [not child friendly location]. Variable/bad weather. Bar service could have been better. Suite rooms separate from main hotel. No remote for the TV . Our hotel room was very tired looking and it required a fresh lick of paint. Rattling sash windows. parking can be a bit awkward at times. food could have been better. Sound proofing of bedrooms was poor, lots of noise coming from room above. The lack of flexibility on evening meal time...we could only dine at either 6.30 or 8.30 as they were expecting to be busy. On check we asked if we could move the time to 7.30 but were not allowed...at 6.30 we were the only diners and when we left there were only 2 other diners! Also, the water in the showers was not very hot. Soft mattress. service at breakfast was not as efficient as it could be. Everything locked up at 11pm. The Bar has lost its local atmosphere..infact there wasn't any !! Would not go again. Cost. Despite sticking to the check in times, the room was not ready on my arrival. Receptionist was not aware of this slight problem but it obviously explained the disappointment I initially felt in respect of the cleanliness of the room/en-suite. Although I had a sea view (advertised), I also had a view of the car park and several industrial sized recycling bins(not advertised). Bed in room 5 was very uncomfortable. the hotel carpet up the stairs and in the hall way and dinning area could do with cleaning. Tired staff! (They had done an 11 hour shift!) Felt sorry for them rather than not like them) There was a lack of personal welcome by someone with "ownership". Slightly tired air to the whole place which was obviously set up with flair but this doesn't seem to be being maintained. poor staff not told about breakfast on arrival, not shown to room. no napkins menu teaspoons on breakfast table, not all lights worked in the bedroom no one manning the bar at 5.30 in a n evening waiting 10 mins then gave up!. The staff will be better after a few months of training,no one in authority to meet you on arrival when told our room was on the first floor we did in fact find it on the second after using the rear stairs which required attention The radiator in the room required painting. very poor toiletries and tea bags and biscuits of short supply,,when tried to ring reception,no reply(guess there only there at short periods )..food very expensive and staff lacked experience in customer care,not welcoming ,not helpful .reluctant to stay here again due to expense and poor service overall. the rooms slanted floor and the fact you walk straight onto a main road out of main door not suitable if you have children.
