What people say
The pool was superb, good hearty breakfast(full English), only a 20 min walk into town and a hotel with free parking(unusual for York). Nice standard 2 star hotel which was comfortable with every thing working. Really good restaurant too. Found most guest houses charging the same rate and with this hotel i had alot of facilities to use eg Restaurant, bar and pool. very relaxed and friendly, superb food and good location close enough to town but not to close cant believe this hotel is 2 star with excellent restaurant, swimming pool (heated) and a well stocked bar would recommend to anyone and would like to hear of future offers. all reviews »

I stayed in the extension part and was pleased with the room it was clean and had everything i needed. getting the queens suite!. location. The use of the swimming pool and jaccuzi. The fact that the hotel was so close to the race course for the reason that the athletics event that i was taking part in started and finished at the race course. The location of the hotel and the ease of getting into york.Nothing was too much trouble for the excellent and friendly staff. Also the food served at the new year party and on years day was outstanding. the staff and pool were great. The restaurant serves great food. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good and the room comfortable. It was not too far from York City Centre as described. Friendly staff, good restaurant and food. friendly helpful staff. close to bus route. Food was excellent. Visiting friends,. Comfort. The hotel was within walking distance of the city centre, although it was quite a long walk. Comfortable bed. Tea and coffee making facilities, which is always useful. We had dinner in the hotel resturant on our second night there. The food was excellent and was very good value. Free wireless internet was a very good plus for the hotel.I liked the character of the building, i liked the pool on site, i likrd the four poster bed, the closet space in the room and there were chairs to sit on and a puff at the end of the bed. There were plenty of plug sockets and the view of the race course was excellent. In room 10 which spans the front of the Georgian hotel, huge and very comforting.Location and ease of access from A64, and ease of access to city centre. We enjoyed the location, meals were very good. The view from our room and the size. Nice friendly staff. Good food. Good breakfast selection. Good room and breakfast. the staff were very friendly and helpful, the evening meal we had was very nice and we enjoyed the pool. Courtesy of staff. Quietness in hotel. nice dining room. Large comfortable room. Efficient service.Food, (dinner and breakfast excellent) pool, parking, good access to public transport. Excellent food. Staff friendly and competent at the same time.Location of hotel. Staff friendly. Nice bar area. The staff were exceptional and very welcoming.only stayed one night but everything was ok. helpful staff -good location-parking. I didn't get chance to use the swimming pool !. would stay in a room on the back next time a bit noisey with traffic on the front. The jacuzzi was cold!. the only downside was that I had no bath.blocket toilet. The room could of been a bit warmer. The fact the pool that we hoped to use was out of action. Although they offered an alternative one at another hotel it wasn't as nice as their own and obviously not as convenient. After all this though it was an unavoidable breakdown that closed their pool. There was nothing in particular I did not like however one small criticism is we stayed in a twin room and ther was only one chair could have done with two.Our double room was rather cramped and was also a fire exit for our floor. The smoking area was right outside the door to our room and was noisy very early morning. Room was quite cold at times as was the pool and showers to the pool. Some of the staff spent far to long on the phone on obviouly private calls
much to our iritation. Might seem daft but the towels could have been nicer and the heating better. The main reason we chose the hotel was the fact that it had a swimming pool. We used it on our first day. The pool was OK, but the changing room was very cold and shower only ran cold. It was a bit disappointing. We didn't use it on the second day. The TV in the room only had five channels. Would have been nice to have more. We were on the top floor of the hotel. The stairs were quite steep. Was not easy lugging a suitcase up to our room. The showers in the pool were cold and the sauner was broken, i would have preferred to shower in the pool area instead of having to go back to my room where the water was hot. i would have preferred a sink in the shower room, but accepted why the sink was in the main room due to size. Personally i prefer a bath with shower but the shower was very hot and comfortable. The bar closed on saturday. Looked through window at pool but didnt look very clean possibly due to vegetation on ceiling. Didnt like look of chalet style rooms but didnt look inside.Noise from the guests in the room above. I wouldn'nt say i did'nt like but the room we stayed in could do with decorating.Decor needing attention. Question 4 not responding. Answers as follows; facilities/ leisure-holiday/mature couple. Room carpet needs cleaning. Bath plug was not attached to chain so verrrrrrrry difficult to remove. Bath water was tepid in the evening. Small amount of mould on bathroom ceiling. No toilet roll holder.Shower gave only cold water. No bath plug, so having a bath instead proved rather tricky. Entrance door to room did not seem totally secure. The menu in the resaurant was not extensive, however the food was excellent. Room in hotel loft area was cramped-poor headroom.

Information about the area
The Knavesmire Manor Hotel is situated in a prime location on Tadcaster Road, approximately 15 minutes walk from the city centre. The A64, the outer ring road of York, is just a short drive away. From there, it is a pleasant drive to the east coat of Yorkshire or to the west towards Leeds and the Yorkshire Dales. There are many varied attractions in and around York, making it one of the UK's top tourist destinations.
The ancient walled city itself is renowned for its history and architecture. Visitors can enjoy a walk along the ancient medieval walls, which affords some of the best views of the city.
Situated on the bank of the River Ouse, Rowntree Park is only a short walk along the riverside from the centre of York. This beautiful, tranquil park is great for a relaxing stroll.
The many other attractions nearby include York Minster (one of Europe's finest cathedral) and the Shambles, a historic, narrow street in the city centre of York with a long and interesting past. As you walk the cobbled street, you are transported back in time to the Elizabethan period, but the street originally dates back to medieval times. In some places, the street is so narrow that if you stand with arms outstretched, you can touch the houses on both sides.
The Castle Museum in York offers a fascinating insight into everyday life in Victorian England, and the National Railway Museum contains the Flying Scotsman and many other famous railway engines and carriages. The Jorvik Viking Centre gives you the opportunity to come face-to-face with the Vikings, on the very site where archaeologists discovered the remains of the place they once called home.

The rooms located in the main hotel building are spread over 3 floors. Each room is unique and individually decorated with its own charm and character. The rooms in the main building are more traditional in style and offer en suite bathrooms with a bath with shower over. Some of the rooms enjoy glorious views over the Knavesmire racecourse.
