we thought the location was excellent for visiting NT properties. The food was excellent & the staff were friendly & helpful. The room was clean & the bed was comfortable. Overall we enjoyed our stay & would return. we also enjoyed the quiz night. The old quirkyness of the building. Fantastic food, excellent comprehensive menu, good wine selection. extreemely helpful staff, comfortable rooms, every facility. log fires, and overall atmosphere of a very popular drinking and eating house. all reviews » Atmospheric decor using the attributes of the old building beautifully. Luxurious duck down pillows and doonas. We got a real feeling that all the staff were part of a team. Attractive town, convenient to shops and post office. Restaurant well worth a visit. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant for breakfast and evening meal. We loved the strawberry room. Perfect location for exploring the Cotswolds. We like the boutique size of the hotel. Friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Cosy hotel with a good mix of locals and people from outside the community in the bar and the restaurant. Chocolate room is sizable and is equipped with a very nice bathroom. Private parking behind the building. All facilities were very well maintained and clean. the food was super. The bed linen was lovely. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. It was me and my two daughters who stayed and they put up an extra bed and ensured the girls were really looked after. The town was ok, a real village atmosphere and where close to a very good golf course. The staff at the George where extremely helpful and the rooms varied according to budget and where extremely clean. The staff was helpful while checking in, the gentlemen even helped us with our luggage to our romms which were on the higher floors. Breakfast was good as they made vegetarian dishes for us. Room was also dingy and found ball of hair in the drain of the sink so disgusting . would never recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. Food very good , staff very good. The room was rather cramped & the bed was pushed up against the wall so we had to climb in from the bottom the bathroom was rather dated. No lift - but acceptable due to age and layout of the hotel. In hot weather our room would have been very hot. We liked everything. We stayed an extra night. Chocolate room lacks WiFi. Bed is not of the highest quality. The hotel shut down at 2230 but not really a big issue overall, guess it was mid week. Some of The rooms do suffer from noise from extractor fans. You had to walk through "the office/reception" each time you went up the stairs to the bedrooms. Had a bath with a shower attachment but would have preferred a proper shower as the water goes everywhere (lobster room). Lumpy pillows. Bathroom door was a bit of a struggle to open, couldn't turn the heating off. Disappointment that the executive room booked was not available. Given tiny room named 'Scallop'. Too hot, with much noise from kitchen vent. Complimentary drinks offered for 'cock up' & promise of a reduction on bill. Invoice prepared was for original price, discount had to be negotiated !. Pity, if we had had the room initially booked online, I am sure we would have had only praise for 'The George'. Not really enough light in the bathroom. My husband had difficulty shaving and I couldn't see properly to apply my makeup. Also the washbasin and the mirror were too high - I had to stand on tiptoe and I am not short (5'7") There was also not really enough area to put personal belongings on - like shelves for instance. the view from our window was of the brick wall of the next building, very poor, but considering the price we paid we can't really complain. After the shops shut at night the place died a death, we had a walk out to see if we could find somewhere for a meal.... we ended up in the co-op buying a pack of four muffins. The floors in the bedrooms are very uneven and could be dangerous in some circumstances. nothing. Nothing. bedroom needs upgrading (not bathroom) - curtain broken - access to one side of the bed difficult - facilities for residents who did not want to use the public bar were limited, also there was no opportunity, in advance of arrival, for residents to book a table for a evening meal. Ditch the Avacado room! No one wants to sleep in a converted shed in the car park, amongst the outside seating area. As our room overlooked the Main Street it was a little noisy in the morning from 7a.m. We were in the raspberry room which had a very noisy extractor fan outside which kept clicking on and off all night keeping us awake most of the night. Lack of sound proofing between bedrooms. room rather hot although there was a fan. Cracked windows would have preferred a bath. Room smaller than anticipated bathroom door wouldn't close properly or shower door. No lift! Phone to reception not working. All water went off in our room 8.30am,no warning, no apology.Back on after ringing staff via my mob on outside line. Access to reception via main bar not a good idea!. Room rather small, view over bar roof, room ventilation. Parking difficult, mirrors in bathroom broken. Staff too busy in bar. the lamb at dinner was returned as inedible, but not charged. Breakfast was shambolic, no plates , no butter , slow service , jam on side so we repeatedly had to go and get things,only 1 lad seemed to be working but good food. Pillows in Artichoke room lumpy. parking we had to park away from the hotel. No elevator makes bringing your luggage to the upper floors a little challenging. Floors are old and when walking through make noise. The room named "Popcorn" should only have been for a single bed very very small you have to climb over other person to get in and out. No side tables for bed had to use the floor for reading glasses etc. . Bed lights like flood lights.Heating was very warm with no ventilation windows unable to open. Shower door very difficult to open and close. After previous good experience very dissapointed will not stay here again. Unsympathetically modernised with inappropriate choice of decor for an historic building. Our bedroom was accessed from the carpark. We had to have the curtains drawn for privacy but the room was very dark and decorated in dark grey (almost black). The bathroom, though well fitted, had no natural light and was decorated in a dark plum colour. Bathroom was really dirty could have done with a good scrub. Also our room was small compared to other rooms we saw. Ask for one of the bigger rooms. Difficult enter while carry the cases through the Fire Door Exit on third floor because it is not safe as the door is on the top of the stairs. The room was depressing! Grey walls grey painted furniture,Just depressing!!!!!!!!!!. wrote what i did not like in wrong box. nothing positive to say about what should having been a relaxing weekend for me and my partner. Needs a few coats of paint and some loving care, 5 years since it was last done up. would not stay more than 1 night.
